• 80 series w/ resonator

Did anyone read the may issue of Popular Hot Rodding? They installed a Flowmaster 80 Series with something I've never seen before: A seperate Resonator. Any thoughts or comments?

Its fairly new system too, don't sweat it. If I'm not mistaken that is the '98+ American Thunder (Flowmaster) that has the resonator, don't think the earlier models has it.

I haven't heard it yet, but haven't heard anything bad about it-only good things. They're supposed to sound even better with headers (of course, any catback does)

The AT that I'm familiar with comes with muffler, 2 1/2" piping, resonator and SS tips.

thats what i got and i love it. I pacesetter headers should be on the way here in the next week and iam removing the cat. THe resinator downs the sou nd a little, but no raspy or rice sound comes out of the car.

I have an 80 series flowmaster muff. and had a seperate resonator put in and i get nothing but compliments on my sound. It revs clean, sounds deep, and aggressive. No ricy sound anymore also.

Cool! Thanks for the replies guys. I was worried I hadn't done my "FirebirdV6.com" homework and had made a mistake in posting what I did. I was just looking for input about this resonator thing and this article I read really threw me for a loop since I had never seen a resonator before. I was wondering what it did exactly and if anyone had installed one. In the article, they had a hard time fitting and adjusting the system. I wanted to know if anyone had a hard time too. The article makes it sound like anyone can do it in a day or two in their garage but it sounds like a pain unless you have a three extra hands. I've read past posts on the resonator issue and have gotten mixed reviews. But those posts are a bit outdated now so I was hoping that someone (like myself) who might have read those posts and installed those resonators might have some current info and input. That's all.

Where did you purchase your system from? I've done some shopping around, and I've found only a few places that carry it, and I was wondering where you got yours. Also, how much did you pay?

I know what you are talking about, the car that was worked on was camarov6.com board member Arnaldo, its the same setup I have, I have yet to hear a great sound from my exhaust because of my leaking headers :(

Summit Racing is the cheapeast and fastest. They've been around for years I don't trust anybody more than them.

regarding the installation, i installed the 17356 (for the 3.4L, without the resonator) with a friend, took 4hrs or so, was simple enough, (friend did almost all the work)

before:
http://www.v6firefury.com/audio/ian_camaro_before.wav

after: (immediately after, sounds deeper now)
http://www.v6firefury.com/audio/ian_camaro_after.wav

it sounds great now (will be better with the resonator which is what you are talking about, also CAI and hi flow cat help the sound)

the only problem we had, which is the same as in popular hot rodding is that my passenger side tailpipe sticks out 1 inch or so farther out than the other, so who knows why this is, if anyone knows how to fix this i would greatly appreciate the help, but sam r. this is a great system for a good price (if you find it at a good price)

I ordered mine through a local guy, got it to me for 300. ITs not hard to install at all. IT will work on the 97 and 96 at least. Mines 97 and no extra work was needed to get it on. Its well worth it.
Just remember its not as loud, but that can be changed and thats what iam doing

Thanks for the input ianwells.

The installers in the article resolved to pulling and bending on the system to compensate for the 1" difference between tailpipes once it was installed.
