Umm... I've never seen ANYONE with 50 series flows. Most people tend to have the 80 series. I know one person with the 40 series, running 3" pipes I believe. It's got a great idle and low RPM tone, VERY deep. At WOT it sounds a bit metallicy (is that even a word? lol), but still sounds nice. I have the 80 myself, on 2.25" pipes, and it sounds pretty deep and good all the way through the tach. Of course I'd like to upgrade to 2.5 or 3" pipes eventually to help deepen the tone a little more. If you do get the 40 series, remember, it's designed for true dual exhaust, so if you want dual exhaust outlets on your car, you'll have to get the muffler shop to split the pipe coming out of the muffler. There's also two 40 series mufflers... the original, and the Delta Flow. Delta Flow basically mellows out the sound. Personally if I got a 40 series, I'd get the original, I like my sh*t loud :D
So get a 40 or 80 :D
Check out http://www.flowmastermufflers.com , there's sound clips of the various mufflers there... of course they only have a clip of a 3.8L V6 in the 80 series page. Their clip of the exhaust sounds terrific too, mine doesn't sound that good... I'd like to know the exhaust setup on that car in the clip, lol.

I went to the FLowmaster site and on the description is says V-8 applications only. I have only a V6 3.8 1996 and the site suggest 40 delta for 50 delta. Will that still work? Will that still work with a single pipe? Do you have a soundclip of your car? Also could I just get the tip at the muffler shop? How much is reasonable. Appreciate the help.

Don't worry about what their site "suggests". Under the 80 series, don't worry about where it says "V-8 applications only", that doesn't mean squat. Notice above that it says "recommendations". The majority of the people with flowmasters have the 80 series, trust me, it works just fine, and I'd highly recommend it, although the 40 series sounds nice as well (non Delta Flow). And yes, you should be able to get some tips at your muffler shop, if they have ones you like. Fasttoys.net carries some nice tips.Kyle M<br />--------------<br /><a href=\"http://grdws6.netfirms.com\" target=\"_blank\">2002 Trans Am WS6</a> (silver, A4) - lid, cutout, stage 3 shift kit, 12 bolt, vig 3200, tranny cooler, bmr sfc/stb, torq thrust ii. <b>12.688 @ 106.47mph -=- 1.756 60\'</b>

The 80 series is a single in and dual out like the Z28 exhaust. IT will cost between $80-100 depending on if you gt it from a mail order or a muffler/exhaust shop. I can't tell you how much it is going to cost to get it installed, but it shouldn't be more than $100 at all.1995 Firebird 3.8 A4, 140,000 miles and going strong<br />Basically Stock, college=poor <p>Junior Mechanical Engineering Student: Milwaukee School of Engineering; Cpl, MN Army National Guard...just got promoted :)

www.summitracing.com carries the muffler alone for $80. If you want a complete cat-back, you could look for the American Thunder exhaust system... not sure where to get that from though, just do a search. I got my muffler installed for $75.Kyle M<br />--------------<br /><a href=\"http://grdws6.netfirms.com\" target=\"_blank\">2002 Trans Am WS6</a> (silver, A4) - lid, cutout, stage 3 shift kit, 12 bolt, vig 3200, tranny cooler, bmr sfc/stb, torq thrust ii. <b>12.688 @ 106.47mph -=- 1.756 60\'</b>

I've got a '96 3.8 too. I currently have the 40 Series Flowmaster. If you're going to go with a Flowmaster muffler, then I would suggest the 80 Series. But, I'm currently planning on switching over to a Dynomax SuperTurbo. (Actually, I've had the new muffler sitting around for a while now...)
Just my $0.02.

Price wise, the mufflers are about the same. Sound wise, the Flowmasters will be louder, and the Dynomax will have a more mellow tone.Kyle M<br />--------------<br /><a href=\"http://grdws6.netfirms.com\" target=\"_blank\">2002 Trans Am WS6</a> (silver, A4) - lid, cutout, stage 3 shift kit, 12 bolt, vig 3200, tranny cooler, bmr sfc/stb, torq thrust ii. <b>12.688 @ 106.47mph -=- 1.756 60\'</b>

I would never buy dynomax products, my uncle and dad just bought headers from those cheap a**** and they even say they are tested for leaks and welds are 100%. I could weld better blindfolded, where the collector is thathas the 4 pipes inside it looks like someone hacked it up with a saw  there are several pinholes in them and they just look like crap, maybe its just their headers but man dynomax is a cheap made product.

You can't say that they're mufflers are crap just because your pops had a bad experience with their headers.

Yeah, Dynomax mufflers aren't crap, that's for sure. Personally, I don't like their tone, but that's an opinion. The quality of their mufflers is rather good though.Kyle M<br />--------------<br /><a href=\"http://grdws6.netfirms.com\" target=\"_blank\">2002 Trans Am WS6</a> (silver, A4) - lid, cutout, stage 3 shift kit, 12 bolt, vig 3200, tranny cooler, bmr sfc/stb, torq thrust ii. <b>12.688 @ 106.47mph -=- 1.756 60\'</b>
