• Resonators Resonators and Resonators

Im wondering about resonators. I'm in kind of a dilemma and im probably gonna test a few things out in a month or two. I hear nothing but good things about the American Thunder 80 series with the resonator in it. Right now I have a muffler attatched directly at the Y pipe and I can rev it up in neutral and get a really clear sound no signs of raspiness or nothing at all. Eventually I have to get a CAT but i'm wondering if I put a resonator after the cat, would the resonator help me get the same kind of sound? Basically get rid of the chainsaw is what im asking. Right now I have a dynomax and a ravin z55 and I can choose to install either one I want to on my car. The thing is the ravin is too raspy for me and the dynomax is too quiet for me. Im leaning towards the z55 because it's a lot newer and I probably do like the sound better the dynomax at least. But I wanna do it right ya know? So basically im asking from anybody who can help. Do you think if I put a resonator in that it would cut the sound down a lot? I think I would probably put it after the cat, before the cutout and the overaxle. So far no one has been able to help me with anything so I might just get a cat back welded and interchange different things around to see what I like best. I hope it doesn't come to that though.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey Ted. The answer is Yes! A resonator will eliminate the chainsaw/buzzing sound from your exhaust. That is practiacally why they are made.

The do quiet your exhaust down a little, but mainly their purpose is to clear out the ruff sound.

I have one I am now going to sell for pretty cheap. E-mail me at Bluebird_of_Fire@hotmail.com if interested!

Can I pick one of those ones up at autozone or something? They're like about 18in long i think i seen one in 2.5in pipe. do you think that would good for a 2.5in catback ravin? Also as for placement of the resonator? Well I mean I know it has to go on on the I pipe right before the axle, but should I bother putting the cutout on? I might wanna uncap it on a warm summer night, if I put the cutout on (if I have enough room) should i put the resonator before or after?

Well, this is a magnaflow resonator, I have used it for only two days!

The reason is because I had A Loudmouth Setup Made with 2.5" piping, and that resonator, it sounded awesome! Deep as H***. Their was NO Rice, but It was just a little too loud for me! The resonator goes about 3/4 down the I-pipe.

As for the cutout, sorry, I don't know anything about those :(

If you want this one, look on my previous post! And since your in Deleware and I'm in Maryland, you'll get it in a few days!

i'd check out resonated tips, a resonator before the muffler will affect the actual tune/sound of the exhaust...just something to think about
