Of course I feel obligated to continue my crusade against people paying for these intake mods :D :D

I swear, I just need to copy down my reply to this question so I can just copy/paste it in all these new threads instead of having to type it out again!

Ok, anyways... I'm just gonna sum it all up quick.

I have the free mods done to my car... my 1/4th times are lower then many people with a similar amount of mods, who paid for CAI and/or whisper lids. Not only that, but another guy in our car club has the free mods and runs a 14.8 (.1 faster then me... of course he runs a 13.8 with his nitrous shot, but that's a different story). Many people with the expensive CAI/lid haven't even gotten near the 14's. So, of course people will get on here and will say the free mods suck, cause they don't wanna admit somethin free is just as good :D Hmm, a common one is that your stock lid has an oval opening instead of a round one. I think that doesn't mean squat, lol.

But anyways, after reading that, you make the decision if all that money is worth it. If I were you, I'd do the free mods, and use that money to get... hmm... exhaust if you don't have it... or possibly a TransGo kit along w/ a servo and deep pan.

    That's my $.02

Whisper lid: on your airbox lid, there's a series of fins on the under-side. Take a pair of pliars, and bend and twist until they're all gone :D Then sand it down.

Air silencer removal: The big baffle in between your airbox lid and your MAF/TB is the air silencer. This isn't free, costs about $5... Get a piece of 3" PVC pipe, and two hose clamps that are big enough to go around the PVC. Pry off the two clamps that hold the hoses onto the air silencer. Throw em away as they aren't reusable. Now cut the PVC so it'll fit in that space, and use the clamps to clamp it in. Be sure to sand it if you have to cut it.

Free ram air: http://eric.virginia.com/install_uni...am_air_mod.htm See that website. It's too difficult to explain with just words.

grdlock, explain how to make a "free" CAI for the 99-up. I already have the "real" Lid and !FRA mod done...what else do I need and what do I need to do to make a !CAI?

Personally, I think the free ram air, ram air kit you buy, and CAI are all the same damn thing. The CAI doesn't do anything different from the ram air. Just look at it...

Agree with you on the free mods, i have them too, but i have to disagree on some things:

Our cars are all different, as they will all dyno differently even with same exact mods. So you cant say i ran this with free mods and the guys with whisper and such things didnt, also there is a driver in there somewhere too, bad and good. Anyways it makes sence that the whisper lid would be better cause of the bigger lid, bigger opening, etc...

And of course the lid just looks better than the PVC pipe! ;)

Oh, and just to clear up some things, on the 98+ the FRA, cold air and all that stuff excluding the lid is the same, they all go under the lid, in front of the radiator...
