im thinking of putting in a high flow cat..the noise of my hollowed cat is just kinda starting to get annoying on the street..but i dont want to put in a high flow cat with my open borla and find out its JUST as loud..should i go with a stock cat and a cut-out or JUST a high flow (such as Catco)?..which will give me the best of both sound and performance?..thanks!
hmm..i think i may go with a stock cat then..the question now..is where to install the cutout (before or after the cat) since my muffler is open anyway..thanks!!
i know when i put my magnaflow(carsound) cat on it made it louder than with the stock cat and i put that on after the american thunder, but its still probably not as loud had the cat been taken out. id say go with your plan. check out the carsounds cat too, havnt had any probs with it or a CEL.

From what I have been reading and asking previously, do not put it before your cat. It will not help performance-wise and will only be rediculously loud. If you are running open borla, it is basically the exact same as a cutout before your muffler, so I don't really know why you want to add another cutout. From what people have been saying though, putting the cutout right before the rear axle somewhere works the best (on the I-pipe).
As for a catalytic converter, any cat you add now after hollowing out your cat will only quiet it down. Probably wont be very quiet still if you are running open borla. But somewhat quieter than what you have. If you can just get rid of the cat and put the cutout near the area you took the cat away from.
if i get a stock cat isnt that still going to cause some restriction?..thats why i was thinking of putting one before it for the track..
i think i made a mistake in my original post..my thoughts were that the options would be adding JUST a high flow cat..or adding a stock cat + cutout before the cat
the stock cat isnt really restrictive. the thing is its 3 in. in and 2 1/4 out. thats what makes it a big problem.
i ran the stock cat with the i pipe unhooked. so basicly there was nothing after the s-pipe. it was loud but not deep at all sounded ricey as all hell.
so i got the 3 in in/out cat and made a 3 in s-pipe. it was slighty louder but much more noticely deeper.
as for power i did not notice any gain from the stock cat with open s-pipe vs the 3 in high flow with 3 in s-pipe.
i would get a high flow cat vs's the stock mainly cuz there cheap and easy to find. got mine on ebay for 55 bucks shipped.
if i were going to do a cut out for track use, i would put it before the cat. i mean you have a seriously sick set up, why have any restriction? it probably wont sound the greatest but it will give you maximum flow.

awesome..thanks for the info..so what size should i get?..3 inch?..i think i may try that and see if it slow me down any..if it does then i may try a cutout before the cat so that im basically running an open y
awesome..because in addition to just being a little less quite id like it to have a more deeper throaty sound..right now its like that at idle..but if i just on it ..it freakin SCREAMS at you..thanks!
Did you think about not running your open borla if you want the car to be quieter? Put a different plate in it or get a high flow cat like you're saying.
\'98 Camaro V6
Appearance... pleasing
Performance... just a little extra air.
thats how mine was with the 2 1/4 pipe. sounded decent at idle then it would just scream at anything about. you should of heard it when id go from 5th to 3rd on a 65 roll. soundsed lked a jet taken off.
