  • Magnaflow question

Hi. I have a magnaflow exhaust on order (the ls1 3") and a 3"/3" magnaflow cat. I have searched and searched and am still confused. The v6 version bolts directly in, but with the 3" i will need an extra piece of pipe (s pipe) correct.

And i could get a mandrel bent piece from jegs and have it cut and flipped and welded in an s. I am wondering if there is anything else i will need, and if i do need this with the 3" magnaflow dual 3.5" tip exhaust.

While searching i saw that the lt1 is used alot and i might need WLK-53061 and WLK-54064 from summit?

Basically on my 2000 camaro v6 a4 what in addition to the catback and cat i will need to go 3" fully.

I know this is a frequently asked subject, but i searched and couldn't find exactly what i was looking for. And if i did see it, it is 1:15 am here so i musta missed it.

    Thanks for any help.

    Brad

the 3" LT1 magnaflow is a direct fit. It comes with the S-bend. Only modification you need to do is cut the flanged end off the S-pipe as it is made to bolt to a flanged cat. cut off about 1/2" and your good to go. LS1 exhaust is where you will have to start fabbing pieces to make it work, or get the install kit for it since they use a dual cat Y-pipe vs the 93-95 LT1 which was single cat identical routing compared to our cars.

cancel your order if you can. re order an LT1 3" system if you can as ellik has pointed out that it is a much better fit.

if it is too late to stop the order you can get the SLP install kit. It is mainly an s pipe. There are two so I am not sure which one you need....maybe call or write them.

Either way you will need a 3x3 cat that has a rear O2 sensor boss or you will have to order a boss and have it welded in the S pipe. the LTI s pipe does not have an O2 boss and I don't know if the SLP install kit S pipe includes an O2 boss.

If you are installing it yourself...(very easy) you will need two 3" heavy duty U bolt clamps (napa) for the cat to y pipe/cat to S pipe until you get to a shop and have it all welded up. The magnaflow kits come with all the other clamps you will need.

You will need to stop by parts store and buy some universal tail pipe hangers. I used two on each side...no rattles...no bumps. You can mount them in the holes that the stock tail pipe hangers mount two.

Check out my web site. I have an exhaust overview page as well as a specific magnaflow cat back guide page...for the LTI exhaust. It is great info that I have done and learned here about our cars.

      good luck. g

        Man,
i thought i had at least got the right system. I got the ls1 exhaust and 3 in cat w/ bung for 420 shipped. It was supposed to ship within a couple days, but i checked it this morning and it has already shipped (i ordered it last night).

I cant complain about great service, but i noticed the lt1 was only 370 with a cat shipped. Looks like i made a 50 dollar mistake plus the cost of the install kit. I lookedat slp site and didnt see the kit and they were closed when i called, any part #'s?

(also with the fabbing of the install kit there shouldnt be fitment problems when it is all done right? Is any of the rest of the piping needed to be bent or fabbed too?

Live and learn i guess. Thanks everyone.

you will be good to go when you get a slp install kit 3" s pipe. I think the v8 hangers are different than the v6 hangers...for both the ls1 and the lt1 kits...that is why i recomended some universal hangers. If you are going to have a shop install the kit then don't worry about hangers. They can weld on you old hanger pins or make some very easily and use your stock hanger mounts.

I think tbyrne motorsports has the slp conversion kit. It is not necessarily on slp.com. basicaly...one of our vendors has it for sure.
