  • hi flow cat question

I just purchased a Hi-flow cat that is 3" in and out. From what i have read, a stock exhaust system is 3" after the exhaust manifold to the cat, and 2.25 inches after the cat on a 97 camaro. Does anyone know if that information is correct? If so, the cat will fit fine after the manifold, but is there some kind of fitter to get to make it adjust to the exhaust system? I was looking at getting the american thunder flowmaster exhaust, but it looks as if its only available in 2 1/2 in/out. So then another question arises:

Another question ive been wondering is can you fit exhaust systems made for v8s or lt1s on a v6? i know there has to be little adjustment, but can i get a 3" system for my v6 so that i wouldnt have to minimize flow? Ive read in the boards, and from what ive read i think you can, but i just want a direct answer so i know for sure. So please, anyone with answers, help me out. Thanks.

Your info on the diameter size is correct. And yes, you can run 3" diameter cat-backs on v6s. This has been discussed over and over. Flowmaster has a 3" cat-back that will work. You need to do a search in the category and you will find all the information you need.

Magnaflow LT1 (94-97) # 15620 for the v8 4th gen fbody is 3" and is a direct fit. It comes with 3" s pipe as well as all the clamps you will need. Whatever you get you will also need an 02 sensor boss (unless you get a CAT with an O2 sensor boss in it already) Have the O2 sensor boss welded into the S pipe.

In anyones opinion is this magnaflow better than the american thunder flowmaster that i stated previously? Im not sure which one i wanted to go with, but magnaflow was in my mind. Anyone with this systems have any pros/cons? Any opinions about the other exhaust? thanks
