  • Which one has more effect on volume, i pipe/cat?

I really am trying to gain a little more volume by switchin my i pipe from my current one (2.5" mandrel bent) to a 3" or by getting a 3" Catco. I don't think I want to do both because I drive on the freeway every weekend or so and I don't enjoy headaches. Which one would give me more volume? I've heard the cat actually will help a lot but won't be rediculous. Thanks

    -Casey

PS: I tried searching for this, but I wanna know which one is a better choice...

I don't know if this will help, but....When I cut off my muffler and exhaust pipe BEHIND my cat, it was loud, but it sounded decent. Today I cut the cat off and it is SOOOOOO loud I can't stand it! My guess is the cat.

do the cat, the cat has more internal surface area that causes viscous friction in the flow stream of your exhaust. By increasing the size, you are reducing the velocity, the Reynold's number, the loss coefficient, and therefore the resistance to flow.

Do the cat in simple terms

Uh-oh, there seems to be another engineer with terms such as Reynolds number. You may want to add boundary layer. But yes, a bigger cat would increase the flow area.
