  • OkI need all experienced exhaust guys in side

Ok I need all of your help. In a few months im getting my exhaust done. I'm going with the pacesetter headers to probably a Random Technologies cat, after the cat it will go in the s pipe and then to a cutout, after the cutout to a magnaflow 4in. resonator (2.5in, 2.5out) Then the overaxle to a Ravin z55 Muffler. I have no idea what it's going to sound like, my main problem right now is deciding where to put the cutout. Before or after the resonator, and if i could even cram everything under there. I'm going with the resonator because I feel that the ravin is a little louder then the flowmaster and it gets too raspy up top, i'm confident the resonator is going to get rid of all that and help. So any opinions please. After thinking about everything and seeing a lot of exhaust systems, this is the best idea I can think of at the moment.

Put your cutout before the cat, otherwise, even with the cutout open, you will have backpressure from the cat. Your headers will come together with a Y-pipe, the I pipe usually connects to this with the cat. Cut the cutout into the Y-pipe, run the cat after that, then the resonator somewhere on the I-pipe, etc. That's what I would do.

The only thing is if i wanted to uncap the cutout it would sound horrible, i already know what my car sounds like just running manifolds and it's horrible, so i think i'd stick after the cat.

I would put it after your resinator, so it clears it up some.

Ted i think your car will be a queit sounding as your dynomax with the resnator. I think that resnator is a bad idea. The headers sould take car of the rasp in itself. By the way, you car will sould a whole lot better running open headers than the wrap-arounds. I think it will sound sweet without the crappy resnator, more than likey it will hurt the sound, not help it.

I was thinking along the same lines....and with the cutout after the cat, there will be no noticable gain from it.

There will be noticable gains after the CAT, toast dropped 2/10s of a second consistently with his opened. I was thinking about how quiet the resonator would sound, but the thing is it's not designed as a muffler. What about the flowmaster system? They have resonators on the American Thunder and I haven't heard any bad news on how the resonator makes them really quiet, only of how it gets out the rasp. The resonator isn't designed like a muffler. So it will still get a lot of flow through it. Plus with the headers and 2.5 all the way back it will still be pretty loud. Plus thats why im putting a cutout on it too, incase I do want it loud sometimes. I think we all won't know until I try it. And if I don't like it I can just get it replaced with some pipe.

The flowmaster resnator is different than the dynomax resnator. The flowmaster one is a little rectagular box looking thing on the I-pipe with baffles in it which is in theory helps with the rasp. I think it is not needed, i mean my exhaust after it burned it now has harly no rasp when flooed, pure exhaust souns, thats it. I really like my set up, it sounds really good and i am really pleased with it. It was expensive but it was worth it.

From the last time I heard it john it sounds really raspy, i'm also not getting the dynomax resonator, it is a magnaflow 4in resonator. I think it's worth a try anyway.

I must have the 2 chamber 80 series flowmaster, cause it sounds like crap(horrible rasp)! I just ordered a Ravin z-55 muffler yesterday. When the flowmaster muffler is cold it has that classic flowmaster throaty sound but once it heats up, it sounds like a pissed off eclipse, damn embarrasing. I do need to put a hi flow cat on cause my honeycomb inside my stock cat is separating.
