• is this a good setup?

3" catco to 3" S pipe to 2.5" catback. is going directly from a 3" s pipe to a 2.5" i pipe going to restrict? Please dont tell me to get a 3" system I already have a 2.5" flowmaster, just i need opinions on what to do before the catback. (what would be the best size converter and s pipe to use with my 2.5" catback?)

Well, I think you're looking at a "bigger is better" situation here. The 2.5" I-pipe is going to restrict, but I think the 3" cat and s-pipe would be an improvement.

it's not a catback if it doesn't include that pipe... otherwise it would be called a 's pipe back'

btw catbacks like the pacesetter one give you all of the pipes.

I would probably think the 3" is the best.
However, b/c you have a 2.5" i-pipe, it'll probably cause a bottle neck there. It's best to run 3" piping all the way back. You could always do the 3" cat and 3" s-pipe and upgrade the i-pipe and muffler later.

In my personal honest opinion I don't think there is a HUGE difference between 3in and 2.5in pipe. This bottlenecking thing everyone talks about I don't think will happen. Stock people go from a 3in ypipe into a cat and downto a 2.25in pipe. Wouldn't that bottle neck? I think even if the laws of science and someone proved that it did, would you really even notice it? 2.5in is still a pretty good flowing exhaust. I'm going with a 2.5in exhaust system. I think the gains I will see from a 3inch over 2.5 inch won't be that drastic. Plus i'll have headers. But I don't think i'd worry about it SlimJim, but that's just me.

I have to disagree based on experience and dyno proof. ;) When I first dyno'd at Hypertech, I pulled 189.9 RWHP and 223.0 RWTQ with the mods below except I was running stock cat & stock s-pipe into the 3" Borla I-pipe. I added the 3" cat & 3" s-pipe, dynoed again at Hypertech, and gained 7.8 RWHP and 4 RWTQ.

3" is very SOTP noticable IMHO! :D

This thread has links to my dyno sheets.

the reason they don't offer the S bend, is for this simple reason:
the S bend is PART OF the GM stock catalytic converter setup!

when i had mine replaced (under emissions warranty), I got a NEW Y pipe, collector, cat, and S pipe. for this reason, it is still called a Cat back exhaust.
