take the black air silencer out and in place of that you use a 3" or 4" piece of PVC pipe and connect one end to your TB and the other end to your air lidMike
www.my99firebird.gq.nu

Just use a 3 inch coupler (attaches two pieces of pvc together) which is at any hardware store for about 2 bucks, and go to Discount or any auto parts store and buy 2 4" inch adjustable auto hose clamps.
You dont need part #s, you'll know what you're looking for when you see it.

It's the 4" PVC coupling. The clamps are the ones that are, well, big enough to fit around a 4" PVC coupling and some rubber tubing.
Just go to the plumbing department and look for the big PVC parts.I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

OK, you got me wondering, so I just walked outside to the shed where the ole Home Depot Lid is stored ever since I got a Whisper Lid.
The PVC coupling is 3 1/2 " interior diameter and about 3 3/4" outside diameter.
Both the rubber parts (A. from the air box to the PVC coupling and B. from the PVC coupling to the throttle body) fit over the PVC coupling with a only moderate effort.

Did this mod this week. Seems to make a slight differance. Power is a bit smother and you can hear it sucking in air a bit.
Do you fellas think there is any advantage to the differnt plastic lid?
Everglades did you notice any gains when swaping to the whisper lid? Thanks,
JAM
02 Firebird GT

i also have a similar setup. i just put a 3.5 or 3.75 inch (can't remember) rubber flexible hose between the lid & the TB. the hose is enforced with a spring tho, so it can withstand a negative pressure. i punched a hole in the side for the sensor. (with a grommet)
i just went to a rubber hose store..we have one here called "rubberline." cost me $10 CAD

gains? i don't know..definitly much much louder tho! i have my maf screen out too.
another thing i did--i took a die grinder with a carbide tip & ground out all the baffles in the stock air lid...any gains, i don't know.
with all this, i just thought i'd see basically what the whisper lid is like, before i spend $$.
& yeh, i'm gonna get a whisper lid someday...

I'm kinda intersted as well to hear from people who had the PVC setup first, then switched to the Whisper lid or another aftermarket lid. Feel any difference?.. may be a long shot, but does anybody have before/after numbers?
I've been keeping an eye on the for sale section for a whisper lid, but as soon as somebody puts one up its gone in about 10 mins - White \'99 V6 Camaro (M5, 3.23s)
- 3\" Borla Exaust, RK Sport Induction Lid, Fast Toys Ram Air, K&N Air Filter, !Silencer, !MAF Screen, B&M Short shifter, Manual Fan Switch, 160° Hypertech Powerstat, BMR Boxed LCAs(rubber/poly), BMR STB
*My Cardomain Website*
