My 1996 V6 has 84,000 miles on it. Should I get a new cat before I install a new exhaust or should I just install a cat-back system. I don't want to spend much money, but I don't want the cat to go bad in like a year either. What do you think?

the cat will eventually need to be replaced. you might as well get a nice high flow catco cat to go along with your new catback so you can get them installed at the same time and save some $$$
Try here for the cat:

makes sence to get the cat if you will be getting exhaust...the guy wont even charge you for the labor of cat cause its a 2 min job if everything is already off.
