  • 3" I pipe people please give me some feedback.

Okay, this isnt' your typical exhaust question... I'm going this friday to set up an appointment to get a Dynomax cat installed, and plan to increase the size of my intermediate pipe while i'm at it. What i'm thinking is going with a 3" cat, both ends, 3" i-pipe back to my dual 2.5" Ravin exhaust.

My goal is louder, meaner sound and a little more power. I will be installing an SLP CAI soon as well. This is all going on a 97 A4 Camaro RS.

Does anyone out there have this setup? Does the extra diameter on the I-pipe sound good? Okay for backpressure? I dont' plan on forced induction any time soon either, so whatever I get will be for the car as it is.

    Thanks in advance...

Sounds good on mine. I just had a similar setup installed last Friday, except I used the dynomax super turbo muffler and 2.5" catco cat. Here's the post.

        Thanks Aminor65.

I appreciate the feedback. I know the debate on what size has been going on forever. I've decided to go 3" all they back to my 2.5" muffler... I just want to know from someone else whose done it as to their level of satisfaction.

        thanks...

I have the same setup except for the cat. Which I will be replacing soon. with a 3" cat. I have the 3" I pipe and S pipe and the 2.5" ravin muffler but with the single outlet. I have the K&N FIPK also. Sounds great, it has a nice deep throaty sound, doesn't sound ricey or like its farting at all. I really like it and recommend it.

I have a 3" hi-flo cat and 3" I-pipe all the way back to a Flowmaster 80. Started with the stock I-pipe and the Flow and the 3" setup definitely sounds deeper (and better). In addition, I have notice no loss of torque at the low end (of course I don't yet have headers installed).

I am tired of the Flowmaster, tho ... sounds good between idle and 2500 but above that sounds tinny, and at 75-80 mph on the highway the drone inside the car is enough to drive you nuts on long trips.

            Going to a Spintech soon ! :D
