  • Oversize throttle body ?????

I have a few question about these, I sell 52mm for lt1 check the link below. I have had some request for the v6 throttle bodies and now i have aquired one from a 96 car.
Does anyone know what years of these will interchange with each other?
Does anyone make an aftermarket throttle body for these now?
If so what sizes do they sale?
Any info would help me as i want to get setup and bore one of these.
Also i should ask is there any interst in these items?
    Thanks
    Jeff

There is no need for a larger throttle body on a 3800 engine. It is LARGE. Increasing the bore will impact the throttle control. Bigger is not always better. Polishing is all that is needed. Refer to the Technical Database for additional information.

hey where are you located in NC i am needing a oversized tb on my 3.4 mine is tiny others have paid alot to get the lt1 modified to fit maybe we can work something out

3.8's may not need a bigger tb but i will be damn if us 3.4's don't i think there will be a demand because i am told the performance improvement is good on a bigger tb on the 3.4's

        I live in hickory,
I see everyone modifing lt1 to fit these cars, why is this so popular those are way to big unless your turning 12,000 rpm.
What size engine does the 96 cars come out with in them 3.4 or 3.8's
and whats the difference in the throttle bodies?
Did GM mess up and put to big a tb on the 3.8's ?

A LT1 TB is commonly used on 3.4 engines, with modification to the intake manifold. You can't put a double throat TB on a 3800, which started in late 95, and has a large TB already.

I'd be more interested in detailed instructions on how to get the stock 3.4L TB a little "better" if possible. ...and I don't mean bigger. I just blasted the heck out of mine with TB cleaner and WOW what a difference after getting all those nasty carbon build-ups out. Anyone know of a simple polish job or slight bore and if any gains could be expected? I'd be happy if the engine would run a little smoother cause I don't expect to go fast.

Ok, the 3.8 liter has a 65mm Throttle Body. I believe that Thrasher or one of the other GP GTP parts companies makes a 67mm TB. This is a rather cost prohibitive mod somewhere around $500. You could get close to the same results by just polshing your TB with a dremel. One other roadblock is that if you go much bigger on the bore, like 70mm, you would need a new throttle blade. If the throttle blade is too small for the bore, your going to have an erratic or high idle.

I make all new butterflies (throttle blades).
if you go from 65mm to 67mm you have to have a bigger throttle blade or it would idle about 2700rpm

Like i say the only one i have now is for a 96, and i think that is a 3.8 and after measuring it, that sucker is big I think i can take around 3mm out of one of these, I need a 3.4 tb core to work with righ now, if anyone has one they want to give up.
I figure a Monoblade like these should sell for around $130.00 after the core charge. 500.00 is a little steep and monoblades are much easier than LT1's
