Another Exhaust Question

Well I ordered an 80 Series Flowmaster. 2.5" inlet and 2.5" dual outlets. I'm having Midas install it. They are going to make me 2.5" pipes to the muffler. Correct me if I'm wrong but... when puting on new pipes you would start from the exit side of the cat and run 2.5" pipes to the muffler. Right? Well midas told me they can't do that. They said that the 2.5" pipe won't connect to the cat the right way since the orininal pipes are 2.25". So they go on to tell me that they have to leave a good portion of the old pipe on there and then weld the new pipe to the old pipe. I'm like WTF why does everything have to be so complicated. I've never heard of this being done, have you. What do you think about this? Please help me out.

They COULD fot the 2.5" pipe onto the 2.25" cat and weld it on. If they tell you they can't do that, they're full of it.

They CAN do it,,,but normal catback systems you buy dont exactly go from the cat back [img]smile.gif[/img]

Mine is right after that s pipe...then goes the i pipe over the axle and to the exhaust.

So i have my cat, a 2.25" s pipe..then a 2.5" reducer going into the 3" ipipe, then off to the muffler.

It is possible to have a COMPLETE catback, just takes a little more work.

So do you think I should push them to run 2.5" pipes from the cat back? Is there a big difference between running 2.5" from the cat all the way to the muffler than using a 2.25" s-pipe from the cat and then going to a 2.5" I-Pipe back to the muffler? Would it sound a lot different between the two configurations? Is it worth it to push them to do 2.5" all the way?

If I were you, I would get two 45 degree pipes for the "S" bend from jcwhitney and a highflow cat. Then they can replace everything at once. Like 96 T-Top said, most catbacks don't have the S shape of the I pipe going into the cat. Some do.
