First off, I'm getting ready to take on making my own version of SLP's 98-02 cold air induction that slips under the air box and fits just infront of the radiator. BUT!! before I do, what type of gains have any of you gotten? Is it enough to be worth it? I dont think the $130 is worth it, but I should be able to make one for under $10.

Second question, for those of us who are unfortunate enough to have the 98 3.8 witht the angled throttle body, the "Home Depot" mod to replace the air silencer doesn't really work. It's one heck of an odd angle to try to get anything to bend and fit to. Has anyone made something to replace the silencer that works on the 98s?

If you want to go extreme, you can cut the front of the tb off at an angle, round the outsides down, route some pvc pipe from the lid to the cut-off tb, and remount the maf sensor in the pvc pipe. See My Car Mods for some pics of this solution...

The other thing I'm working on is trying to adapt a 99+ intake and tb, which should be shipped out to me soon... I'll start experimenting sometime after I receive it.

Another possibility is to try http://www.jagsthatrun.com/ or http://www.ihozs.com/ for decent tubing, elbows, and connectors.

I had seen your mod, and if it works well, that's great, but I'm not crazy about the idea of cutting my throttle body.

I am still wondering about how well the CIA mod from SLP(or others that are similar) works.

i got my FTRA used for 100 bucks shipped.

it's a good system, i definitely felt a difference over the FRA, and definitely over a stock setup, but i put the block off plate on, just as an experiment, put the airbox back togehter, started it up...hmm...idled fine.

RAM AIR is a sealed system. this obviously was not sealed, as a sealed system with a blockoff plate on would not allow ANY air into the throttle body, thus killing the idle. try this sometime. to gage how much air the car really needs, it will die if you put your hand over the top half of the throttle body.
