  • What Size Pipe do i need for a straight pipe??

Hey guys, well i'm going to get this done on thursday...i have a blower, headers, and edelbrock catback exhaust.....i think it should sound decent with the blower pushing out more exhaust making it sound a little better than a stock straight pipe would.

the edelbrock site says " 3" in - dual 2-1/2" out"

will i need that size pipe? I'm not exactly sure...i thought i needed 2.5 inches for both sides but i'm probably wrong..... Also how much length should i get?

Thanks guys this is greatly appreciated.

Since you have a blower, you should go with 3" in and out.

Ya but will a 3" fit into the Y-pipe's end?i did notice though that the main catback's pipe from the converter starts off smaller and then expands to a 3" i beleive. But i'm not sure if i need an exact fitting pipe, or if a 3" pipe on both sides can be modified to fit from the end of the y pipe to the beginning of the catback.

      thanks for the help

I'm not entirely sure what you are doing but a 3" pipe which is flared(belled) slightly beyond what would be required to fit on a 3" pipe will be a very tight fit, I know this from experience. The top of the Y pipe, maybe 3-4" before it goes into the cat is flat on the top of the pipe. This makes it all kind of difficult to fit the round pipe on there and then makes it impossible to just clamp the pipe on. Check and see if the pipe is more round closer to the cat before making any cuts and don't let friends cut it with an arch welder because they won't be able to see the line you draw on the pipe with a red marker and will probably end up cutting it too short. It's better to cut it off with a saw or something and that way you won't have to grind down all the drips so you can fit the pipe on.

Yes, that was a lot of fun this weekend. Could have been a lot easier, always is though I guess. Now I'll know for next time.

Oh yeah, the only place that sales 3" pipe is exhaust shops and none of those are open on sundays. They can flare the pipe there. Where I went they charged me $5/foot and $2/turn or flare. This was for 1/8" thich or so 3" aluminized pipe. Good luck with the project, hopefully yours will go better than mine and that your car won't sound as bad as mine does now. It sounded so good before and now above 2,500rpm's it's annoyingly loud but has a lot more power up there now.
