Get rid of the heat shield or weld it to where it won't rattle. By the way, where did you get the cat and how much was it?

I had the same problem with my high flow cat so I ripped the heat shield off. You won't have a problem by doing that...there is still a heat shield on the underside of the car where the cat is.

hmm..can i do that or should i take it to the shop??

i got it off ebay by some dude named like jehovanissi or something like that for about 50-60$, so yea i got a pretty good deal. The guy at the shop welded the outside but it didnt help, he said he could jam some pieces of wood in there so it wouldnt rattle, what do u think about that?

or anything else u can tell me about rippin off the heat shield, pros, cons, anything

        thnx

They are not attached too firmly. You can take a pair of plyers and bend it back and forth (with it off of the car) and get it off.

This must be something that is 98+ because my magnaflow cat does not rattle, nor does the heat shield

If the heat shield is that loose, you should be able to get it off with some pliers even on the car.

                  Magnaflow cat here, no problems.

shop said its not that the heat shield is loose, is that because of the way it is designed that it clangs on the other part or something causing it to rattle

I'd agree, sounds like a problem other than the cat. I also have a 3" Magnaflow and the shield that came on the cat is welded tight. It could be the shield that is attached to the car above the cat, or a number of other things.

Hmm, now that I think about it I used to have a nasty rattle from the exhaust and it turned out to be a short 6" piece of shield that was clamped on the intermediate pipe just in front of the axle. I'm not sure what it was meant to protect but one of the clamps had rusted loose and the thing was vibrating so I just ripped it off.
