• Which intake combination offers more HP?

I recently purchased a fiberglass non-functional SS hood for my 00' Camaro. I'm getting the guy whos painting it and intalling it to cut the slit out and put mesh grill stuff inside the hole in the SS scoop. Anyway, I was wondering if I would get the biggest performance gain with a SS ram-air setup? or just getting a whisper lid and the ram-air thing that goes under your airfilter. I can't really find a kit for a 2000 that would make an SS hood functional. The ones for the Ultra Z hood looks like it would work but ftpp.net only has kits for pre-97 3800's. I know 1DangerousV6 has the kit on his car and on his website he says he got it from RKsport but I searched RKsport to no avail. Any help would be great. Thanks

idk what exactly would give the best gains. i don't think a comparison has ever been done before. it would be interesting to see one.

I would think that the Ultra-Z hood would give the best gains. The SS hood port is further up on the hood than where the airbox is, so you'd have to have some convoluted ducting running to the box. The under-car ram air scoops give decent gains, but they have to force air up into the box. the Ultra-Z seems to be the most direct route out of the 3. there are plenty of sites that carry the Ultra-Z hood. ftpp.net isnt the only V6 performance website.

They did a test for this on Horsepower TV a few weeks ago. THey used a 99 SS maro with the funtional hood scoop ram air.

Then they installed the SLP flowpac, which is high flow lid, and undercar ram air. I think the car gained like 7rwhp on the dyno.

Will the Flopac from SLP work on 3800's? On the website I think it says LS1 only. Do the LS1's have a different kind of tube between the airlid and throttle body?

yes, quite... have a look at an under hood shot. the geometry is totally different.

not to be a jackass, but there is a reason they say that it only works on LS1s, and it's not because it also works on 3800 V6es. :D

yeah, aftermarket induction systems produce more HP then stock ram-air. i would throw a whisper lid and an undercar ram-air system on but still open up that hood. it will bring cool air onto the intake and cool it down alittle.
