They obviously are only hearing your cars at idle... anything about 3K RPMs will rasp out and burst their eardrums.

what he said.

put our cars next to an 8, and then start them up.

Ignorant people mistake my Firebird as a V8 too, they think my W68 ground effects are the difference between a regular V6 and a Trans Am. They don't believe me when I tell them the trans am has a totally different front and rear end... go figure! They should at least know that Trans Ams have a real spoiler!! And nobody really knows what a Formula is, they just look at me funny when I say it's the same body style as mine!

But like ya'll said, only someone who's owned an f-body or is a domestic enthusiast knows the difference between our cars and the V8s. My exhaust is one of the meanest and least raspy I've ever heard on a V6 but anyone who's ever been around V8s for long can tell you it's a V6. Actually I'd rather more people knew my car wasn't a V8 cuz then when they see me floor it and it doesn't go no where fast they don't lose any respect for the V8s that are actually fast, lol!

People mistake mine for a V8 also. When people ask me, hey whos Z28 is that over there, I say, oh thats my Z28. It is there mistake. Also, I had one kid call my car a mustang one time, I almost beat his ***.

Kid: Look Mommy! Its a mustang!
Me: Dont ever say that again!

im runing stock exhaust. and people think mines an 8, every one knows about z28's so they assume that all sportsd cars are v8's. Hell most people dont even know what a v6 is..at least the girls i talk to don't

i got challenged by an LS1 the other day. Was running on the freeway and was in 5th gear..i saw an opening and downshifted to 4th (put me at like 3500-4000 rpms) and floored it...got past him and slowed down a little. He got in behind me and kept up with me almost all the way to where I was going, even followed me off the freeway!

When I got to a stoplight, he got up next to me..threw a rev (it was a LS1 trust me... deep throaty rumble from his car) and when the light turned green we both went. needless to say i got my *** handed to me in a bag. But the point is that a LS1 thought I sounded good enough to race.

I also had a 1970 Z28 owner come up to me after I pulled up to a car cruise and ask me what kind of muffler system I had. After replying it had a cutout and seeing the puzzled look on his face, I told him "It's a 6 cylinder, thats why it's so quiet." His response was "what?? no way.."

Guy was like 50-something.

Don't think that a 6 cylinder exhaust doesn't sound great. If done right they can sound pretty good. And the raspyness is due to having less cylinders and the engine winding up quicker. If you listen to a v8 at like 6000 rpms, they don't sound to great either (little raspy, just a little deeper due to more displacement/cylinders)

Anyone who knows exhaust notes should know your car is a six.
