  • Flowmaster Muffler Swap??

    hey,
I just had a Flowmaster american thunder catback with the 80 series muffler installed on my 96 RS, i cant help but notice that its pretty quiet, i was wondering what would be a good replacement muffler that would fit in with the flowmaster pipes that will give it a louder rumble, i was thinking it could just use some time to burn in but it seems awfully quiet, can anybody give me some info on a louder muffler to boost some decibels? thanks alot

if the muffler isnt loud enough, just put a pipe in its place :D

Have you thought about a cutout? One thing about my exhaust if i could do it over again is that I don't always want to be loud.

would it be hard to add the pipes in place of the muffler? and would it be alot more raspy n stuff? i know that my I-pipe has a resonator which tones the raspiness down so if i added the pipes in place would it be alot better sounding in terms of rumble and decibels? also where would you recomend taking the car to get this done? ive heard Mieneke is bad any suggestions? thanks

sorry for me asking but what is a cut out, and i always thought that it was the muffler that made the rumble, so how would jsut replacing that with a pipe make it better?

o yea and btw is starts off quite and gets louder and eeper over the next few weeks, also getting a highflow cat makes it louder too

yeah get a high flow cat, that will make it louder, the muffler muffles the noise, if you just put a pipe in its place it will be very loud and anoying( mine right now) i recomend magnaflow 3 inch cat

a cut out bypasses the whole exhaust system and allowes the exhaust to come out off the headers (or where ever in the system you have the cutouts) it can be opened or closed, usually for racing.

Look around on Ebay. I've seen a "muffler eliminator" pipe made for our cars. It's the same principle, 1 in, 2 out, but it's only a piece of pipe.

If i get a magnaflow high flow cat is it gonna fit right up to the catback and will it cause my engine to throw codes?

I have that exact flowmaster system, but i run pacesetter headers and no cat. It really made it sound nice, no raspyness and pretty loud. I have gotten so many complements on it.
