  • Is it possible this is actually my problem?

I have an exhaust rattle coming from the floorboard infront of the passenger seat (the cat area) that the repair guy at the dealership claimed is caused by my catback exhaust that doesn't even start until about 3 or 4 ft after the cat.

dealership shop guy: we can't do any repairs under warenty because your aftermarket exhaust is too big and pushed things out of the way.

me: what got moved? I don't see what is moved.

dealership guy: the pipes are larger than stock and that caused your problem

I left there thinking the guy saw the catback, decided that THAT was my problem, and didn't even check the car. I honestly don't see how the stuff around the cat could have gotten moved - it's got too many da** bolts holding it to the body to move. I KNOW the noise is coming from around the cat (somewhere within about 1 foot from it at most), but I don't know what exactly.

Should I try another dealership or what? This dealer was at home (the same one who decided that it would be a good idea to realign my passenger window when they replaced the window motor, making me go back the next day to get it to seal correctly). I'm now at school and there's atleast 2 or 3 dealers I saw in the phonebook.

I guess on a side note here - anyone from Atlanta recommend a dealer for warenty work?

This da** rattle has been annoying me for over a year now  .

    Rob

EDIT: here's a previous thread I had about this problem thread - I couldn't figure out where the clamp is supposed to go exactly. maybe someone could post a picture?

Its prolly your cat. I'm willing to put money on it. My old Firebird did the same rattling under the passenger side. That mechanic is full of $hit. But does the cat back affect your warrenty? Idk, i'd look into that. Although, something might be hitting or stuck on your cat, like a piece of road debris, or like mabye your heat shield? Lol, but i'm certian your cat or at least something dealing with it.

Uhm I lived in Atl for 18 years, up until like 3 months ago. Do you know where the Gwinnett mall area is? Around Duluth? Off of I-85? Theres a Rick Hendrick Chevy there that I dealt with a few times. They know what they are doing. And there was one in Snellville...near it, i call it the Snellville one, but its near Ronald Regan Hwy, on 124. I went to them for my window motor. I liked them a lot. Map quest it or something...

    Snellville one is
    630 Scenic Hwy.
    Lawrenceville, Ga 30045
    Phone:(770 ) 963-9266 or (1-800 ) 588-6274
Ask for Tory King if he works there still

    The Gwinnett mall one is

Although adding aftermarket parts to your car doesn't void the warranty obviously it voids the warranty on the part you added. If you have done exhaust mods I wouldn't really expect the dealer to do warranty exhaust work.

True, but cat's are covered by car companies for something like 8 years/80k miles. As much noise as that thing was making, it can't be in prestine condition.

shock_core, I know what area you're talking about (the Rick Hendrick one). I may have to pay them a visit
