• CAI vs. Whisper lids... (98'+ fbodys)

For those of you with 98'+ fbodies that come stock with the intake lids, is it more beneficial to use something like the SLP CAI vs. the traditional Whisper lids?

I already did a search and couldn't find anything.

I currently have the Whisper lid with FTRA mod, and was wondering if SLP CAI would be a better set-up?

Any thoughts on this?

As far as I know, the FTRA and the SLP CAI are nearly identical.

I think he's talking about the 95-97 SLP CAI style intake vs. the 98+ lid style intakes...

If you look at the power numbers from 95+ 3.8's, they're all the same. Take a 98+ panel filter and fold it into a conical shape. It's about the exact size as a KN cone that comes with the FIPK. Therefore, it flows the same amount of air.
Also, the airflow with a lid is MUCH more direct than the 95-97 models. I played around with rigging a 95-97 intake on my 2000, and the whisper lid/filter/FTRA setup is MUCH more beneficial. quite a bit faster...

I've heard that one is better for low end than the other. I did a search and someone said that FTRA doesn't pick up until 60+ mph while the CAI (one listed for my car) was better all around and in lower rmps/speeds.

I drive in town/city a lot and need something more for lower end, and highway passing (damn old people driving so slow ;) )

I ALSO heard they're the same and that FTRA "picks up" sooner than 60. I'm confused and am CONVINCED that that the SEARCH button is evil ;) )

I just have a whisper lid installed right now, is it worth it to get the FTRA and the FRA mod, along with raising the airbox?

The whisper ram air kit (WRA) knocked .2 average off my 1/4 times. It's identical to the FTRA, but cheaper.

don't raise the airbox with ram air, you'll lose the ram air effect.
you can do the free ram air until you get the time/money to do the ftra kit.
you notice the FRA, but you REALLY notice the FTRA

Is there an intake that works better at lower end? I know the faster you're going the more air, blah blah yeah, but is there something more effictive down low too?

I think I'll just go with the whisper ram air kit
