  • should i port my TB

i know this topic has been beating pretty badly. and i have done search, but i can't find any solid material.. i have a 97 camaro and i want to port the tb if there is a gain to see.. i do have a 99+ maf sensor to put in place of the old sensor..

i talked with zoom and with his stage 1 hvtb, he is seeing 7whp and 9lbs of tq..

i have no clue how zooomer ports his tb's and i know the the l36 in thr grand prix gt's are a tad different..

so my question is 1. is it worth it, 2. how do i go about doing it?
    thank you

I think somebody posted some directions in advanced tech a while back.

I'm curious too, if anyone has done any before and after e.t.'s or dyno's on a tb port job.

well I can tell you that I ran my friend's 97 Camaro and we have identical mods and he just port and polished his TB and on top end...whoa he definately pulled on me. I was still ahead tho because he can't react off the line for crap...but the point was he was able to pull about a car on me (went from being a car and a half behind to being at my door when we hit 118)

yea i think i'm going to do it this weekend and then hit the track on sunday. i do have a new maf to put in so my driveability should be fine...

i'm also going to make one of those air scoops for the bottom of my car..

hopefully with this new changes i can dropped .2 in the 1/4

Magnus and I discussed this a while back in advanced tech. I don't know what thread it was though. But if you were searching only in this forum, then try advanced tech instead, and you should be able to find it that way.

I had a "hunting" idle, and the engine would nearly die every time the idle dipped. I also had surging on part-throttle takeoff, and very erratic maf readings. When I monitored maf readings with autotap, when wot accelerating through the gears, the maf reading would not constantly increase in a gear as normal, it would go up, then down, then up again, then down, it was literally all over the place. So the fuel delivery was jumping up and down as a result, when it should have been simply steadily increasing.

If you remove only the bottom half, you can keep the original maf sensor. (the 99 wouldn't fit anyway, because it comes enshrouded in plastic that essentially duplicates much of our top half of the metal post, you would just about have to cut out the top half of the post to get the new sensor to fit).

You may be the one to let us know finally!

Are you definitely doing the air scoop at the same time, or will you be able to evaluate just the tb port by itself?
