  • steering clearance problem after installing pacesetters

Well, I had a REALLY long weekend that I spent installing my pacesetter headers and changing my plugs and wires.

I finished all of this sunday morning @2am and I test drove it around and to my surprise the steering column(linkage, whatever it is) is rubbing up against the driver's header. It really sux. The car still turns but I have to give it more force than usually to get it by. It's only part of it hitting the header because it will feel normal when I turn and then it'll be hard to turn for a second then back to normal and so on.

Anyway, I have to take my car into an exhaust shop today so I can get all the rest of my exhaust hooked up. Do you think it would be safe to have them file the steering linkage down? I dunno what you do in this situation and I tried searching and couldn't find anything about it. I'm surprised no on else had this problem with the pacesetters? I dunno, any advice on what I should do would be great. I'm at a loss on this.

I installed mine Saturday and didn't have any problems with that. Not sure why that would happen. I put in an LS1 steering rack a couple weeks ago so I changed the linkage on mine while I was doing the headers, but I dont see why the old linkage wouldnt have fit. :(

You can adjust that linkage. Loosen the bolt and adjust it so it doesn't hit. However if you're lucky like me, it'll be jammed. In that case, get a Dremel and grind the edge of it down.

ditto. same problem here. just loosen that bolt up, and stick a screwdriver in the slot behind the front part of the linkage. give it a little shove and tighten the bolt back down. it doesnt take much adjustment to get it to clear.
