I'm about to go from the stock single exhaust to a flowmaster series 40 w/dual exh. The price a locally owned shop here quoted me was about 150.00 without tips so depending upon the priceyness of the tips...i'd say its a good deal. It more than likely beats the national chains...

              Hey SilverRS96!
I'm still in the "roundtuit" stage of getting mine done. I'm like 50 (51 next month) and a pastor (as the screen name might hint around to).
I want that nice thick rumble that the classic 70s musclecars like my old olds cutlass 442 had but I don't want to rattle the church house when I pull up. My wife already looks at me like a flounder on a boat deck everytime I begin to talk about mods on the 96 firebird. Is the series 40 considered as a modest-medium exhaust rumble?
I realize the last post was 5/12, but down here in bayou country we've been havin' some rough weather and it took out my phone lines here at the house for three and a half days...just got em back this morning!

Ur never gonna get that sound that ur 442 had out of our 3.8's...the 40 series has a rumble as low rpm and idle but it starts to get a lil ricey at high rpms (over 4k)...theres either the 40 series like i have or theres he 80 series too that ive heard that also sounds good but i dont think as loud

Gotcha!...prior to this 3.8 firebird, I was in a purgatory of japanese midsize and compacts. So this car is a real substantial ride from where I'm comin from. And you're right, they just don't make em like the ol'455 and the 350 rocket anymore. But on up side, they don't get ten gallons per mile like the old ones either. And with the advent of loan applications at the gas pump...that's pretty good news.
Sounds like the 40 series will do me right as well. Blessings, and have a great weekend.
