I got bored and started thinking about making my own Cold Air induction on my 1997 Firebird. I got a 3 inch PVC elbow to fit on the engine intake with some grinding and some heat. Will 3 inch be big enough to help my performance out? I am going to attempt to Mandrel bend PVC pipe tomorrow by packing it with sand and using a heat gun to bend it to fit, If this ever works i will post some digital pictures of it all, But is 3 inch big enough???
Please, someone help. I need to know if you think 3 inch PVC is enough for a cold air kit, i just want it to be better than the stock setup. Since it only costed me about 15 bucks for all the fittings and such, and just a lot of handy work, I am just hoping it increase air flow. I will post pictures of the setup if someone can help me so i can just finish it
i would think that 3 inches would be plenty. i dont know for sure though. the mandrel bend idea sounds good... but its hard to tell how well it would work for sure.
id say with all that work youre puttin into it you should just get a used slp cai if you can. i was thinkin about doing a homemade cai, and i would have ended up spendin so much on that i just got the slp.
I think 3in. would be plenty. The throttle body is 3in. so thats all you need. I have a homemade cai right now and im about to do what your doing. Except for the mandrel part. I just need a 90degree elbow because my pipe is more like 70degrees and really hard to clamp onto, it keeps falling out. I'll see what I can come up with tomorrow.
I have figured it out. I have a 3 inch street elbow coming off the throttle body into a 3 to 4 inch rubber sewer line connector into a 1995 trans am stock intake piece that goes over what appers to be the something to do with either the brakes or power steering which is on the corner of the radiator. Then after that, i removed the silencer, and shot a pipe with a 3 inch 45 degree elbow for another 3 inch by 10 inch long pipe which extends down in that bottom area where I think a K/N or SLP CAI goes. I am still looking for a filter, but i am told that one of those 20 dollar rice burner ones will fit on the pipe with minor alterations, so that is probably what I will do until i find a K and N that works, since anything is better than that ***** stock setup. I think i will take some pictures of it, most is unpainted let me warn you, the only thing that i don't have on is the filter, but you can get the idea... I will post them If I can figure out how to.
