  • SLP resonator kit, does it really need the install kit???

I'll be honest at this point I have not gotten under my car to look but this is my question. (The bird is in the garage and we have ungodly amounts of snow here, 2 feet).
I look at our sponsors who have the SLP Loudmouth cat back available for the v6 f body
T byrne wants $69.99 for the install kit
LM Performance wants $67.95 for the install kit

LM Performance has a pic of the install kit.
I am just seeing an s shaped mandrel bent pipe, 2 metal hangers, and a rubber piece.

    Now, look here:
    http://www.lmperformance.com/images/parts/31039a.jpg
When I look at this it seems like the resonator is just before the rear axle. I have already upgraded the piping from the catalytic converter to the S pipe, then cat back (edlebrock actually).
To me the install kit seems like a complete waste. Couldn't you just weld it right to the S pipe (Keep in mind mine is larger (2.5 inches now)

What I am getting at is is this install kit really neccesary for one who is modified already?
I could possibly see a stock S pipe possibly being replaced with this mandrel bent piece.

I dunno, I'm looking for some feedback because saving $70 would be nice and spending it elsewhere is even better!!!

    Please, loudmouth people?????
    Help????

The loudmouth install kit was originally for single-cat LT1s, and it was just a piece of 3" pipe (instead of the stock 2.75"), and was fitted for the loudmouth I-pipe.
On the single-cat LT1s, the S-pipe disconnnects right at the cat, whereas on our cars, the s-pipe is part of the cat. Anyhow, the loudmouth is designed for the dual cat cars, so it only replaces the I-pipe back. Hope that helps.

      Thanks for the quick response.
So, from what you are saying this install kit may not be needed on a v6 with a modified S pipe?
LT1's have this as a bolt on, not welded to the cat set up vs v6 set up where the whole thing is welded together??

No you do not need the install kit to install the loudmouth. All it is is a pipe that connects the exhaust to the cat. When I got mine installed slp forgot to include the pipe and i didnt know it till the day of the istall, so it went on w/o it

i think the install kit is a complete waste. just get the 3'' mandrel bent U pipe from summit and make your own s-pipe.

You should just by a bullet muffler from Dynomax or Sweet Thunder, weld it into your I-pipe and then have a custom pipe made for tail pipes.

Goto ls1.com and search for "dynomouth"
