I have a problem. I knew this was going to happen but I bought the headers anyway and now I wish I would have got CIA. My headers leak. They leak on the flange that meets up the header to the Y pipe. The headers are already on the car. I have visited 3 local exhaust shops and they all tell me there is not enough room with them on the car to cut and weld new flanges. I then asked them to weld them together. And they all tell me because of the ceramic coating on the headers its not going to get a good weld. So they wont do it. What other options do I have. I have tried big thick metal gaskets and those dont work so good. I really need to get these fixed asap. I need helpe big time. Also does anybody have problems with the Y pipe rattling against the transmission? Seems like mine is rattling on something. Help me.

Ive got the Rksport headers and when I put them on they leaked so I took my car to meinekie and they fixed it , I think they put thicker steel gaskets and welded around the gaskets , they also welded the y pipe to the headers. If want really good gaskets that will stop leaks forever then custom your own copper gaskets. That should really stop the leaks forever2002 Grand Prix GTP- FWI Intake , flowmaster 40\'s ,3.4 pulley , and Intense racing PCM.
94 3.4L camaro -Lots of mods!

All the exhaust shops I have been to said they can not weld them because of the ceramic coating on the header?
I have tried 3 different shops they tell me the same thing. Are they BS'in me?

Just tell them that you'd rather have a bad weld than a bad leak.-Travis
99 Trans Am, Pewter, A4 Forged, stalled, and cammed
85 Buick Regal WH1 T-Type It\'d be cool if it ran...
94 Camaro 3.4, Teal, M5 The daily beater

I have this same issue too, it has been leaking ever since day one. I have asked around a couple shops to weld the y pipe flange together, but they all say that there isn't enough room to fit a welding gun in there.
So basically I was told the only way to weld, is to remove the headers, and weld, then re-install.... which takes $$$...
any other suggestions? :(*OneQuickSix*
1998 3.8L V-6 Camaro
~A4 w/Y87~

Well I installed a new metal gasket on each side. I had the 2 piece Y pipe welded together. Right now I have no leaks. We did have to pound on the flanges when they were bolted up and the pipes were really hot to get the shaped right. But I have no leaks. If the gaskets blow out again I will find somebody to weld them.

The reason the exhaust shops tell you that they cant weld it is because they dont wanna take the chance. When this ceramic coated flanges are taken off then the new flanges will began to rust as regualar exhaust pipe would. Eventually (2-3 years) they know that this connection will rust and fall off and you'll come back to them complaining that your $400 headers dont work and its their fault. Ive been through it. I have no leaks and all I did was get a napa gasket and upgrade to the largest diameter bolt (1/2 I think) that will fit and use lock washers on it. I havent had any leaks.1995 Pontiac Firebird 3.4L
TA front bumper, TA rear bumper, 98-02 Honeycomb tailights, GM Ram Air hood, 2k C5 18X9.5 Corvette rims all the way around, custom autoloc shaved handles, camaro two tone interior, silver badging, clear front marker lenses, RK sport headers, gutted cat, dynomax dual exhaust, Rear disc rearend, Richmond 3.73 gears, Zexel torsen LSD, Cross drilled front rotors, 2 12\" MTX thunder 8000s, Clarion 400W amp, MTX 5 1/4
Components, thunder 4262 amp, pioneer head unit, Hypertech power programmer (Yes it does exist)

I had 3/8's flanges welded on with the headers on the car. The guy is pretty slick, the only thing is that some of the welds are too fat and I can't get a socket around them so it takes longer but other then that its not a bad job. I still haven't gotten them to stop leaking but the guy said to bring them back and he'll fix them for free. I think the problem is that I just can't get those few bolts tight enough.
