  • 40 Series Flowmaster

I hear the 40 series has more of a growl than the 80s, does anyone have it, would it be a good idea to get, or is the 80s still better. suggestions please.

The 40's sound like crap on the 3.8. Sounds ok on the 3.4 but so does the 80 series.... so all in all dont get the 40 hehe. Just my opinion. If you want deep get a cutout.

I've heard that changing the stock 2.25" pipe to 2.75" or larger will get rid of that honda sound. Personally I like 40 delta series, when you floor it, the sound quietens down and doesn't sound like a civic (there's some of those around here, so I know).
I'd wanted something that sounded good up to 2500-3000 rpms

1000-1800 rpms: nice growl, just want I'd wanted.
2200-35000 rpms: My review is opposite of others, but I love the sound when revving in a parking lot, but Not while driving, or under a load. OThers will definately disagree, but TO ME it seems to imitate a muscle car (well, as far as you can get with a 3.8) when not under a load. While driving, it does have a hollow sound to it, to be honest.
3800 rpms-and beyond: The sound (Delta series) quiets down when flooring it and is not much louder than stock: meaning no headaches.

I like the 40, I just should have (and one day will) "open up" the pipes.

Don't flame me, I haven't heard many after market exhausts on V6, because 1) there are more mustangs and z28 here, and 2) its seems all F-bodies both V6 AND V8 are stock exhaust. (though I did hear one SS take off from a distance that sounded a little like mine, not sure if that's stock though or not). Once I thought I heard a Z28 from a distance...only to find that it was coming from the truck around the corner. Oh well.

I have a regular, non delta flow,40 series on my 3.4 and I love it. It's barely noticable at idle but sounds great when you get on it. I have stock pipes and a turndownright after the factory hanger. I've heard a lot of different opinions, but this is my $.02!

keep in mind this is a 3.8 wee talking about and most people agree that the 3.4 sounds better in any muffler. IMO: I do not think that the 80 series sounds rice at all, it sounds like a v6 but that is what it is. Stop trying to make it sound like a v8 because it is not, embrace what it is and be prou of the fact that you roll in a v6. If you want rumble get a cutout, personally I leave it open most of the time because I love the sound.

Ill go record rice and then play it next to my exhaust and youll see the differance.

I have the 80 flow, with stock pipes, I probably will be getting 2.75" pipes at the end of the month (hopefully) Click on the link to hear the 80 on a 3.8

I'm sure you've heard it on enough 3.8's to know too..
after burn in when i had my 2.75" pipe and fm40, up to 3k the rumble was awesome...3-4k had a ricey sound, but that's a given. after 4K, it's just LOUD. there's some interior resonance, but it's DEFINETELY better than a cutout.

                My brother had a 40 series w/ 3" pipes.

He switched to a borla w/ 3" pipes.

Both just sound loud to me. heh heh. Does sound better than stock. Not sure what is meant by "ricy" sound. ??? If you want big sound... get a big motor. Gut everything and plop in a 440 hemi. LOL

I heard a girl taking off in a Honda civic, the word "farting" comes to mind. The FM40 Delta definately does not have this fart quality, its just sounds somewhat hollow in mid-range.
