I currently use the paper gaskets but it seems fine.
Did you use it with the original stock aluminum gaskets?

From the size of the openings in the paper gaskets, and the soot marks, it looks like the paper ones restrict the exhaust opening too...

If you were to ask me, I would say it blew out like that because you didn't have that last screw torqued up evenly with the rest.
That's exactly what will happen if say....all the screws have 20 pounds on em and one only has 10...it will get blown apart.
I use the paper ones and so far they have no signs of anything going bad...but if something does happen I'll inform you all.
