  • Thoughts on SLP Loud Mouth for 3.4L camaro

    Does anyone have experience with the slp loud mouth cat-backs? Sound, performance?

    The models i'm looking at are the SLP-31039 and SLP-31039A -- for my 3.4L

    I can get either one at: http://www.ammperformance.com/V6Main.html

    for $320 , is this a good deal?

    Also, i see there is no real muffler as such. Its almost like full straight through piping (check out the pics). Is this good? This is the only design i have seen like this, but i believe i've heard good reviews on the loud mouth.

    Anyone have info on the slp?

    I have the Loudmouth on my 3.4L V6 so when you are in Louisville, give me a call and you can hear it.

      Thanks for all the info Josh. I trust your info on the slp loudmouth; its just that i'm 22, in college, and money is so precious right now..lol

      I want to make sure I spend my money on the right mods for my car...i can't imagine spending hundreds of dollars on mods (like some on this board) and not get the performance results expected.

      I guess my main concern on the Loud Mouth is that it has the 3" pipe all the way to the cat (i.e. which is why everywhere i have looked says this system is for the v-8's or at least the 3.8L's. No doubt it will fit on the 3.4, but why then wouldn't it be recommended for this engine? I really don't want to lose power in my low rpm range, which is why i was looking at 2.5" pipe. Thats really the only thing holding me back from jumping right at this cat-back because it sounds great.

      Next time i'm in louisville, i'd definately like to give it a listen

      Thanks again..... any other loud mouth experiences on 3.4's are greatly appreciated!

        I'm looking at getting a cat-back too except I have 3.8, so if anyone has an experience w/ a loudmouth on a 3.8, I'd like to hear about it too.

          k, now i'm going to drive myself nuts for 2 weeks until the Loudmouth gets here!!

          I just got done searching through the old posts about this cat-back for a v6 and i've never seen such mixed reviews-- esp. Scott and Rich (did you guys ever figure out why the sound was so different?)

          Of course most the reviews are for the 3.8 and i've heard exhaust sounds better on the 3.4. Also i'm leaving the rest of my exhaust stock (at least for now -- stock cat and up)

          Anyone else who has info or suggestions on the system i'd greatly appreciate it. Or else i'll just stress for a couple weeks,lol.

            The only reason I can come up with is that Rich had a stock cat and i had a Carsound cat. I think that is the problem with my Corsa right now, it is pretty raspy. I'm going to put a stock one back on soon. It also makes sense that way because with the LS1s, if they use stock cats/headers it sounds decent (to me at least, others cant get enough of it) but when they add headers and highflow cats or an ORP, it just gets godawful.

              I've heard Rich's, sounds more or less like mine, it's really a good setup- it's incredibly loud at low rpms, absolutely blows all the other exhausts I've heard of on our 3.8's out of the water. Up high, it get's REALLY loud, I wouldn't really call it a rice sound, it just doesn't sound like a V8, but then again...it's not.

                  Yes I kept stock manifolds and cat- it's loud on the highway- it drones a little but I like it, sounds mean.

                    I'm just not a fan of it on a v6.
                    I've learned on the dyno that my v6 needs backpressure.
                    The resonator or slp loudmouth seems to eliminate needed back pressure with its straight thru design.
                    Seems to work very well on v8's
                    As for v6's, in my opinion I would not.
                    Get something with a muffler

                      Well, it was ordered b4 i saw all the conflicting posts about it on a v6. I'm hoping by keeping my stock cat and manifolds i can create a little more backpressure than by replacing the entire exhaust... i hope anyway.

                      I'll post my reviews when i get it... still thinking positive

                        did you remember to get the adapter to fit it up to the 3.4? there is an adapter kit that guy sells to fit the loudmouth to a 3.4L Engine. (93-95)

                        i imagine if you have that, thats probably a 2.25" or a 2.5" s-pipe which connects either to the 3" i-pipe or the resonator. either way, it should help with your low end torque due to keeping the exhaust velocity high.

                        I have driven my 1994 3.4L Camaro around for a while, stock manifolds, stock 2.5" y-pipe (all 3.4's have a 2.5" y-pipe) and cat attached and 2.25" s-pipe (from the cat to where the pipe straightens) -&gt; 3" i-pipe and dual outlet flowmaster catback system.

                        my car dynod at 140 rwhp / 183 rwtq (which equates to 164 hp / 216 tq) with a 2.25-&gt;3" system. i also have put a cutout after the bend over the axle (in afterthot should have put it at the end of the i-pipe) and the car doesnt feel like it lost anything, and it breathes a little better higher up. (altho the stock iron heads really do suck). ill letcha know how the car performs after i get it running again with the aluminum heads. but i dont see why a SLP Loudmouth wouldnt work on a 3.4 as long as you keep the Cat.
