Need help getting things together for my header install!

Allight.. I got the headers, a new cat, ZZP block off plates/egr sim... and new gm gaskets are on the way!

NOW! I am installing on a year 2000 car..

so.. a few things need to be addressed..


***EGR**
taken care of assuming that the plates fit, and seal well??

can someone confirm this? on a 2000+ car?

(part 1) Some people have said they needed to grind something off.. something realted to the stearing mechanisim.. anyone care to go into more detail about this???

(part 2) washers for the y-pipe connections.. I need to get some..

I am getting a custom 3" s-pipe made up..
got new plugs to go in.. and i have talor plug wires from thunder racing allready installed..
Is there anything I am forgetting??

just as a side note my new carsounds 3" cat dosent slip fit into the y-pipe.. its jsut a little toooo big.. not huge deal.. just something i thought I would let everyone know about..


any help with the questions about would kick butt.. just to make sure i have everything i need lined up..

Don't grind the headers. Just adjust the steering knuckle to get the clearance needed between the steering linkage and the header.

dont spend all day laying on cold concreate ;)
im still trying to shake off the sickness i gained from that.

i knows its kind of a far drive for washers, but i got bins of em.

is that the issue?? how had is it to adjust??

I still have problems with the steering hitting the header. I tried adjusting that steering linkage, but it ended up binding the gears further down near the steering rack. We grinded down the corners of that knuckle a bit and it helped. Still hits when the engine moves around, though, so we're just gonna grind it some more.

as far as the washers for the collector bolts.. i added 10 washers to each bolt... 5 on the top and 5 on the bottom. then tightened the hell out of them, and gooped up the locktite.


no need to grind. from other posts, you can just adjust the linkage.. and be set with it.

even though i've never had a problem with the steering in the way

maybe we should throw this thread in the archive, it has answered most of my questions and provided me with solutions. i cant think of any other problem that hasnt been addressed in this thread except for the plug wires getting in the way.

the only spark plug that is in the way with the pacesetters.. is cylinder number 4.. (middle passanger side plug) to get to this plug.. i use a 3/8 swivel socket.

Yeah.. I am not doing the install.. I am having a real shop do this one.. lol.. i am getting lazy.. I have dont all my other mods though.. jsut kinda dont feal like freazing myass off for this one..

I will let him know about the stearing linkage issues.. and I plan on finding some shorter bolts.. washers are not the "right" way to do things..

yeah.. do we have an archive now?? i think I went over every thing for a 2K+ car..

and i can compare my results for differences for a 99.

It's just as easy to get different bolts that ae slightly different length than to use 10 washers. Just need some that are threaded about a 1/4" further up towards the head of the bolt.

thats what i am saying..

my installer is like "i am not gunna do the washer deal, cause its stoopid. we will get new bolts"
