• WHY do the old V6 Chevy's sound SO COOL?

My 88 Z24 with the 2.8 V6 sounded so bad *** , I have hurd the Z34 lumina's, monte carlo;s, and more, and I wonder why the 3.8 sounds like crap, I mean, I dont want a V8 sound, just a cool V6 raspy distinct sound, would converting to a Y87 muffiler help? when I needed a new one on my Z24 I got one with 2 outlets and it sounded better, would the same work for the camaro? any ideas?

The 2.8, 3.1 and 3.4 are all 60* V motors and somewhat related. The 3.8 is a 90* V with a totally different firing pattern and higher compression. Bet that has something to do with it.

I've driven a 99 M5 coupe stock and it didn't sound like much. But I just got a 02 RS with the Z28 exhaust and it sounds awesome. People have told me that it sounds more throaty than the Flowmaster I had on my old 94 3.4. If you want a better sound, thats what I'd go with.

The 3.4s are alot louder than the 3.8 because its a bored and stroked 2.8. I have a catco and a flowmaster and it sounds very close to the sound of a v8. Of course at higher rpms it begins to be diferent.

The 2.8s, 3.1s, and the 3.4s all sound like boat motors. If you wnat to hear an awesome sounding 3.8 listen to a 87 Buick Grand National. They sound do right mean, close to a 5.0 even. Even the old 4.3s sound good. If you put the right muffler on that 3.8 "dynomax" that 3.8 will sound good. To make it even sound better put a cam in there. I was wondering, if I went to my normal mechanic and said I wanted a new muffiler and I wanted a Z28 one could they just order one and bolt it right up to the existing cat with out anything elts? do replacement Z28 muffilers come standard with the rectangle tips welded on? Do I have the right idea?

If your gonna go that route, you might as well get a cat-back from someone who replaced one on a V8 and wants to get rid of it. Heck, I sold mine shortly back for $80 for the I-pipe and muffler with chrome tips. I'm sure you could find another good deal like that. Check out LS1.com or Camaroz28.com, they always have a lot of slightly used stock v8 stuff.

evenr better deal i got an entire catback for free jsut had to pick it up. i might be willing to sell the tips off of it, the catback is not on my car yet.

Like said before go with an entire catback, preferably used, a bigger i-pipe will help with sound.

I know what you mean 3.8ls are not the greatest sounding, many peopel give compliments about my car, even at autxing events they keep saying I have a v8 trying to bump me to GT-prepared instead of G-prepared.
