  • Current Borla owners ... BORLA mod

Okay, for those of you that have a BORLA, and think the smallest opening is too loud and raspy above 3000 rpm (sorry Scott B, some of us have neighbors that complain ... LOL) and the block off plate is too quiet ... this may help you

Sorry I don't have any pictures, but I took a piece of aluminum (from a dryer duct or go to home depot and but a piece for $3) and traced the dimensions of the plate onto the aluminum with a nail (screw holes, outside dimensions and inside dimensions). Cut out with a dremel or even tin snips will work. Now for the middle, I just drilled 3 holes for the middle section instead of the 1.5" diameter hole that was there. RESULT: There is no rasp above 3000 rpm (or when the pedal is floored), both outlets are functional, and I still get a lower tone than stock.

    Thanks

It just seems like you are usually the one preaching loud and pounding exhausts. When I had the full open plate, the neighbors weren't too appreciative at 7:30 in the morning when they have a 1 yr old. Then when I tried to floor the car, a lot of rasp. I think I almost gave a seniopr citizen a heart attack.

But, I do graciously thank you for all of the exhaust info you gave me a few months ago!!

LOL....that's why I have a Corsa now, nice and quiet until you romp it. I need to put an XR1 inline on the I pipe so the rasp will be gone. Thats what they told me to do when I emailed them (Corsa).

        np ;)

Rasp=****ty, unclean popping noise that is a result of not enough backpressure. The XR1 has sound absorbing material inside it to take that noise away.

I still wanna do the X pipe though. :( BLAH!!!

What do you mean by WS6 borla? WS6 mufflers arent from Borla they are just stock.

Scott explained the poppong sound pretty well. It scares a lot of people.

This is not a WS6 mod! ... I have a V6 borla (thunderracing) on a V6 A4. I upgraded the cat and went to a 3" s-pipe to match the 3" inlet pipe to the Borla muffler. I also had to put an O2 sim on my O2 sensor behind the cat.

The sound is much louder than a stock exhaust, with very little popping

Yes, it will be quiet. It will sound ricey at high RPM's IMHO. Just not enough airflo from a V6 going through it to get the deep sound.
