  • k&n intakes

i was just curious as to if anyone has had any problem with the k&n air filter. a mechanic i know said that they can burn up your trans because of the oil in them. anybody heard of this. he told me he read it about monte carlos so figured it applied to other gms too.

and anther what kinda of k&n intake SYS. do the f-bodies take 99 firebird in particular even tho it should be the same for all

Burn up your transmission? Your intake has nothing to do with your transmission ...
    (fixed)

Transmission no, I've heard rumors of the MAF dying because of the K&N Oil.

^^Darn I bet that would be one heck of a speed bump. Seriously though there is no way an intake modification can mess up a tranny. They are in no way physically, mentally, theoretically, or metaphorically linked. Putting a K&N air filter on your car will in no way kill a tranny.

^^Haha thats funny. Yea you know another thing I hate, is when my car suddenly decides to squirt headlight fluid all over the front of my car, its such a pain to get to get off.

ahh those muffler bearing are a ***** to replace and so costly too. LOL

I wouldn't be taking advice from that mechanic anymore, if he thinks an intake effects the transmission.
looks bad , runs like hell

actually he said it can get into your turning signal fluid...it has nothing to do with headlight fluid..lol

but seriously, maybe he mistakenly said trans and meant something else, or it somehow can indirectly effect the trans...im really not sure. thats why i put that out there. he could have meant the MAF. SORRY TO ALL THE CAR GODS out there.

Only if you over-oil it. Too much oil = blowby, too little oil = bad filtration.

If you spray it on nice and evenly, and are patient letting it wick into the filter, there's no problems.
