  • Whisper Lid Question

I read that the only difference between the whisper lid and the stock lid is the ridges on the underside of the stock lid. If this is the case, can I grind the ridges off my stock lid and save myself $125?

There are other differences, but yes you can do that.

Also remember that the Whisper Lid gets rid of the air silencer. That's where the big difference comes from. You can make that yourself with some dryer ducting if you want.

The exit from the lid is also larger on the Whisper Lid.

Plus it looks pretty damn good. :D

as 98camaro 3.8 said, you can shave the lid and replace the silencer with a piece of 3 in pvc pipe. this will give you noticable gain for mininmal price.

i did this and then bought a whisper lid. the lid did give me a little more thottle response.

if moneys tight just shave the lid(dont grind it, just take a hammer and run it down them the break easily, and you dont waste your grinding wheel), replace the silencer and do the !FRA mod. you notice a pretty big difference. the !FRA is nice on these cold dry nights.

I used an air tool with a steel round plate on the end to grind all the ridges off, smoothed it out with sand paper and washed it. Don't really knowtice any difference in throttle response. I'll try adding the pipe to it and see how that turns out. I will be buying a whisper lid eventually but before I buy one I would like to buy an exhaust and NOS system. This will do for now thanks!

            Remember guys, he's got a 98. ;)

You won't be able to use a PVC pipe on yours. You'll have to get some kind of ducting.

Ah, the dreaded angled TB. Sucks for you guys. Anyway, use some ducting to get rid of the bellows and shave the air box lid and you will be happy. Since you have a 98 firebird you can do something that is a little cooler than the FRA mod, check it out here http://www.camarov6.com/ubb/ultimate...;f=29;t=000011 . Its a bit more work but it will keep you filter cleaner than the FRA mod and will get you just as much cold air flow to the filter.

Cool! That seems like an easy mod I can do in a couple hours, I have a set of air tools and an air compressor so it should be no problem thanks for the info.

Just got done with the ram air mod... About a week earlier I put in a SLP CAI and a K&N air filter, I knwoticed a greater increase of horsepower from the ram air mod then both the other modifications combined, thanks T-Punk!
