its pretty easy to break a bolt if you arent applying force along its axis. in a cramped engine compartment its often impossible to get good clearance.

gm probably wants you to break the bolt instead of stripping the threads in the cast iron block.

if the bolt isnt crossthreaded/tight you might be able to just spin it out with the drill going in reverse.

Because it seems no V6 header kits include new bolts, so people re-use the old ones instead of getting a new set from Advance for $30. Bolts that have been sitting in an engine block for six years will break with almost no force applied at all.

ummm... pacesetters come with all the hardware you will need... including header bolts..

only thing is the y-pipe bolts are too long.. but thats not a big deal..

 stephan is the master..

So.. "ohh wise one".. how else do you bust a bolt when you are "torqing" it to 20 lbs??

I broke a header bolt loosening, too, I can't imagine trying to tighten back up with the same bolts.

take a dremel, and cut into the bolt so that you can fit a flathead screw driver on the top..

thats what i do when i break bolts...

The same bolt broke for me too. I got a right angle drill thing from Sears, and it was too big.

I wasn't able to find a way to get to it, without either jacking up the engie to get at it, dropping the engine, or pulling the head.

            It's in a hard spot...

I never had headers bolt on my stock manifolds.. I did have something called a stud.. which isn't a damn bolt. I snapped a STUD taking off the stock heatshield because my stock manifold was leaking directly over the stud.

P.S: Its still in there and my headers aren't leaking to my knowledge but the egr is =/
