  • Rookie Exhuast Questions

Ok, I've been reading messages on this board for a while about which exhaust is better and what it seems to come down to is personal preference of sound. Now I've heard a couple of audio clips (just clips at this point none in person so far) of different exhaust systems. First, would somebody tell me if the clip on this website is really a v6 w/ a Borla system: http://www.ftforce.com/listen_f-body.html. Also, I haven't heard what a B&B sounds like. If anyone has a clip (or a car in the Albuquerque, NM area and is willing to let me hear it) I would appreciate it.
Any other sound clips anyone has I would appreciate too.

Just for reference I do intent to replace the entire exhaust system, not just the muffler.

Oh yeah, I just read this thread about long tube headers... what exactly are those??

    Thanks,
    -Jason

Ok, since it was brougth up, I have another question. Obviously the point of exhuast is to move gases away from the engine as quick as possible to it can continue to work (or something close to that... its late). So with that in mind it you'd think it would be best to have huge exhuast pipes, but it appears that you guys don't go over 3" is that becuase there just isn't room to accomidate the size or is there and ideal size to use??

3" might actually be too big for the amount of air the 3.8 pumps out...factory is kind of restrictive, yes, but anything over 3" would be overkill
Your sig is the most important part of your message. Make sure that you list EVERY single thing that you have done to your car so that we can all go \'oooh!\' and \'Ah!\'. Please make your sig consistently longer than anything else you post. Please include your lengthy sig with EVERY single post you make during a reply, even if you only reply with a monosyllable grunt.

Looks like the more room you have to flow, the more room you have for turbulence if you don't fill all the space.

I have a flowmaster with stock pipes and quad tips. It sounds pretty good now, and I'll be doing the same thing as magic with 2.75" pipes and some new tips.

Oh and all of those are v8s in the link that you posted.

Same as the Y87 muffler, not very free flowing - its there just so you can put 2 tips in the back for appearance.

The muffler off an actual WS6 should be a bit better than a Y87 muffler shouldn't it? The catback exhaust on the WS6 is where almost all of the advertised horsepower increase over the base T/A comes from.

the WS6 muffler is very free flowing Dominic. look on www.ls1tech.com for dyno comparisons between the stock WS6 catback and different aftermarket catbacks. the WS6 makes maybe 3 less HP at the wheels.

Well perhaps its better than I think it is, I just can't see it being as good as any aftermarket.

yeah,.. the ws6 is recognized for getting most its power over a regular TA from ram air,.. but its mostly the exhaust. How would this sound on a V6, tho?

Since all of those are V8's does anyone have sound clips of either Corsa, Borla or B&B systems I could hear??

                            Thanks,
