Since a K&N filter it cloth with oil sprayed on, wouldn't you do the same with a wash cloth and some veggie or olive oil sprayed on?

Oh yah, that's the exact same. You do the testing on that one. I'm sure your engine will do just fine. - JT3
1998 Red V6 Camaro Y87 Y3F - J.E.T. well actually, k&n does one other thing too, they coat the inside with oil and gasoline as well. and they also put their "cloths" in the dirt and get them as dirty as they can. that will work just fine. i did it on my intake and the first time i didn't get the right amount of gasoline and blew up my engine...but it was no big deal. i got it right the second time, or so i think. no biggy...i saved myself $20 on a freaking k&n by only costing myself gasoline, veggie oil, a cloth, some dirt, and one 3800 engine. i'm sure glad i did that mod.2000 NBM M6 Camaro Z28
323/335

LOL no, my friend tried it with his 93 stang, instead of smelling a bad car we smelled burning olive oil. You should see his cai,its 2 inch pvc pipe with a 90* bend and a 4" air filter that goes on a carburated engine. No need to bash anyone here. There is no excuse to call anyone dumb, especially by a rookie. He asked a simple question. Sure he may expect to get laughed at, but not called dumb.
BTW-saying things like that gives us a bad name
