  • **PICS UP! - New Cold Air Intakes Available

    ** UPDATED **

All the information on this system can be found on my website I just finished up.

    Custom 3.8L Series II Parts

As of now, the only part I have fully developed is this cold air induction kit. I am also working on a very bright custom headlight setup for the 93-97 Firebirds and a custom fit Silicone radiator hose kit for dress up. A custom throttle body setup with an SLP 85mm MAF sensor is also in the works and I'm looking for a 95-97 donor throttle body currently to develop it, stay posted.

Pics will be up tonight of my setup. Here are the options for the intake system:

          Basic System:

          1. 3" 90 Degree Rubber Elbow
          2. Provision to move IAT sensor into elbow
          2. 3" Mandrel Bent Pipe to Fenderwell
          3. 3" K&N Appropriately Sized Air Filter
          4. All necessary clamps
          5. DETAILED Installation Instructions w/Pictures

          Price: $130

          Options:

-- Powdercoating for Pipe: $30 to total
-- Jet Hot Ceramic Coat Inside/Out for Pipe: $75 to total

Either coating will add about 1 week to the delivery time. I would like to get three orders initially to produce these, regardless of the options you choose for the system. If I can get five orders initially, I will drop $10 off the price, and if I receive ten or more orders, I will take $15 off the price, meaning I'd be building these for a $5 charge a piece. And in response to seeing the SLP kit for $200, even so the comparable option here with the powdercoating will be $40 cheaper IF you can find the kit for that price, however it retails on most sites for $249.95.

                  PICTURES ARE UP!

                  Picture 1
                  Picture 2
                  Picture 3

My intake is clearly uncoated, but the ones I'm producing can be powdercoated or ceramic coated, as I'm having done to mine very soon. Also note that the system looks this way after having it installed and running for over a year and a half, so you can be assured that even uncoated it will stand up well. My pipe is 3.5" as I have no condensor in front of the radiator and therefore can adjust the radiator position to fit the larger pipe. However, the 3" pipe fits perfectly in the gap there with the stock condensor in place. After the first kit is made, I will have an installed picture of the final kit on my car with everything in stock locations. For anyone who also lacks the condensor, I would be glad to fabricate an identical kit using a larger 3.5" pipe and appropriately sized elbow as well, although this would cost slightly more. Also note the placement of the IAT sensor which keeps you from having to buy an extension, it will fit with the factory length of wiring. This sensor IS necessary as in cold weather the car will not start well with it unplugged as it richens the fuel mixture appropriately. I had it unplugged once when it was very cold outside and the idle was rough until the car warmed up until I plugged it back in.

If you are interested in this kit, please send an email to me at cboney@uga.edu and let me know you want to buy and what options for coating you would like. As stated, I would like three orders before I begin making these kits.

Questions About Fitment on Other Years:

I do not currently have a donor car to test fit the setup on a 3.4L or post 97 car, however I believe they could fit with minor modifications on the 3.4L. I am unsure of the fitment on a 98+ car as I have not tried and don't have a donor car for testing, but most likely it could be adapted, however I repeat I will not have tested this on a 3.4L or 98+ 3.8L as of now.

looks clean. Definatley a professional looking setup.

if you had a 98+ option i would definatley lean towards it.

The 98+ has an angled throttle body so this setup should work with that too assuming you remove the stock air box assembly. The only thing I'm unsure about with the 99+ is the spacing between the radiator and the ABS module, if you could get the 3" pipe in there as you can with the 5-97's, you would be able to use this setup as well.

you would have to move the fuse box on a 98 to accomodate the pipe that goes into the fenderwell...

Yes, my car has the angled throttle body (it is a 97, all 95-98's have angled throttle bodies) and 95-97's are identical in ABS module locations. I have not checked the amount of space available between a 98 3.8's abs module and radiator so I'm unsure if the 3" pipe would fit for that year. If anyone with a 98 and 99+ car could send me some detailed pictures of the ABS module area and the throttle body, I could most likely adapt the kit for those years too, but I have no cars to test fit a 98 and 99+ kit on. And from the looks of pictures I have seen so far, the fuse box appears to be in the way for 98-02 cars as somebody just mentioned.

Hmm thats what i thought, well im seriously thinking about buying one and good job on making something work for the infamous angled throttle body.

                              edit:
also did you have to remove that airbox mount thing that goes over the radiator?
