  • 96 TB question

Hey guys, I was wondering if there is a throttle body heater line or anything like that heating the throttle body on my car. If so does anyone have a walkthrew guide or somthing like that on how to block it off or redirect it? thanks

there is a coolant that flows into your tb, you can bypass/block it by filling in the hole that the coolant goes into. I wouldn't recommend this though seeing you are in Canada and have pretty cold weather. Your TB can freeze up with no coolant running through it.

It's a small passage, but I'd also recommend leaving it alone if you live in Canada. If you lived own south where temps don't normally pass below freezing, I'd say to block it.

Well I was thinking of that also, but I often use my block heater if its VERY cold i plug in the block heater when i park my car for the night and leave it running overnight, and i let my car warm up for a few mins befor i start driving anyways. I also find with my pacesetter headers the underhood temps are alot higher than before when i had my stockers with heat shields around them. Plus my intake is always hot. So im thinking it wont be an issue. My dads LS1 runs all winter with no TB heater. his is bypassed all year round.

So how do you actually block the passage, and im still not 100% on where the heating passage actually is on the TB.

Thanks again for the replys guys/gals

In order to block the passage, you'll have to remove the TB first. Look on the back side where it connects to the intake, and at the bottom there is a long (side to side) cutout. You'll notice it when you see the coolant running out when you pull the TB off. That's the spot you want to fill or block. Remember, it's the passage on the TB you want to fill, not the upper intake's.

You will need some sort of high temp glue or silicone to fill the passage up. I would suggest a silicone just incase you change your mind later on, you can just scrape it out. Make sure the passage is VERY clean first before putting anything in there to dry! You don't want any deposits getting into the engine's block.

yup, just as hockeyman described. Here is a picture, you can see the long groove that needs to be filled.
