Is it the heat shield suronding the cat or the shield bolted under the floor directly above the cat? I have this same problem and it makes my car sound like ****. Every time i bring my car into the dealer for warranty work i tell there *** to fix it and it never gets done. They "never find anything" and i tell them (sarcasticly
) the same thing every time "well it sounds like **** and im pretty sure its not the sound GM was shooting for so maybe youll fix it next time". Im pretty sure if i rip either heat shield off they will screw me on my warranty.

just rip it off, i went under my car the other day, im pretty sure thats what it is but i couldnt get it off with my bare hands and i didnt feel like getting something to rip it off. i dont have my lisences yet so its not a big deal. and if they even notice its off, just tell them it fell off going down the road one day.

I have this same problem, but it sounds like it's coming from my belt. It's not my cat (because that's making a totally different rattling noise), or the heat shield (had it checked out already). It's also not the torque converter, at least Aamco said it wasn't. I can't find where this thing is coming from!!!

anyone?!

When mine rattled it was the exhaust clip holding the catback onto the s-pipe that was digging into the underbody and rattling everything.

and it was that metal-on-metal sound coming from somewhere under the engine?

Yeah, it sounded like stuff was slamming together and about to explode

You could also feel it through the floor almost directly under you at higher RPMs.

Here's what happened 2 my jobby...installed Flowmaster Cat-Back system w/ just clamps...rattled pretty bad, so I took it to a shop 2 have everythin' welded up proper-like, an' also so they could look at the Cat-Conv. They said the exhaust was vibrating an' hittin' on a crossmember (same side as you're sayin'), also informed me that my Cat. was still (BARELY) under factory warranty. Dealership replaced the Cat. (FREEBIE, Baybee!! "$900+" 4 factory Cat. an' install otherwise, supposedly) But here's the real "kicker", I guess a coupla' bolts were BROKE on the exhaust manifold, which is what was causin' the whole deal 2 contact underneath, etc. Apparently, this is fairly common, so U might wanna' check it out. ;)
