I have a 99 3.8L Camaro, I recently came across a 3.4L 2.5" firebird exhaust system with chrome z28 dual tips. I know that some mounts are going to be different, however im not installing it someone else is. Will I have any problems at all? (backpressure, leaks, etc) Also there already is a leak on the exhaust but the person installing it says he'll weld it. Will the weld last or is this not even worth it or should i buy new?(keep in mind im getting the system with installation for $80)
as far as the backpressure you will be fine, and for the leak as long as the guy knows how to weld it it should last forever, my opinion for $80 you might as well go for it
yes it will work fine. all the hangers and everything should be the same actually, if not there very similar.
you wont have any problems. you stock setup will most likely have more back pressure then this one. so that is def not a problem. leaks are just dependant on how well the exhasut is put together. any exhuast can leak. get it welded where you can, as clamps tend to leak more, but you can remove them easily.
as blackFbird_98 said if he can weld, it will last forever.
i agree with him too. for 80 bucks you cant beat it. esp w/ tips.

Have you actually measured backpressure throughout the RPM range on a 3.8L with a 2.5" exhuast? If not, how do you know he will be fine as far as backpressure goes?
I am not saying he won't be since I have no numbers of my own; however, you can't say backpressure is fine on a 2.5" system if you haven't done any measurments.
To the original poster, if you are thinking about backpressure don't forget to also think about exhaust gas velocity.
For $80 it is a good deal and I would recommend going for it. It will defintely be an improvement over the 2.25" stock exhaust.

dont worry about the hangers. They are basicaly just 1/4" steel rod welded to the tail pipes and then the do an L bend and insert into the rubber chassis mounted hanger recievers. He can use the hanger L's from your old system or easily bend up some new ones out of steel stock. The ends are squished to give them a barb like end so that they don't pop out of the rubber receivers. That is easy to do with a hammer.
I have yet to hear anyone say that there cars' performance completly sucked after changing to 3" exhaust. Neither have I heard complaints about going to 2.5". My 3" exhaust system has caused a VERY MINOR (only noticeable by me as before and after experience with car) low end (low rpm)(we are talking right off the line from a 'normal' daily driving start) reduction in power. after 1500 rpm though, everything is as it should be and after 2000 rpm there is more power all the way up to red line. (not counting the powerdyne in this review)

dude are you serious? stock is 2 1/4 piping and a restrictive silent muffler. so going to 2 1/2 with a free flowing muffler is of course going to decrease back pressure. i dont know who, or why you would waste the time and money to test for back pressure in this case.
i stand corrected on the hangers. on my buddys 94 3.4 i know the rear hangers(after the axle) are very similar.

Without a doubt it will be less backpressure than the stock 2.25".
I was simply pointing out that no one has any measurements to confirm/deny whether 2.5" is big enough to handle the gas volume that occurs at high rpm's. Therefore telling someone they will be fine as far as backpressure goes is just a guess.
Although obviously it will be an improvment over stock which is why if he can get it for $80 I recommended it.

Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
