• Running an open whisper lid?

After doing the ram air tunnels I want to make them more effective, is there anyway I can remove the whisper lid completely and make an air filter right before the TB so the air would come in from my hood and go straight through?

thats exactlly what I had in mind, what size filter would I have to get for a intake like that?

Does the TB get hot when the engine is warmed up? Could I put a filter directlly on it or would I need a small pipe to seperate the filter from the TB?

Would this give me better air flow to the motor?

you'll get more airflow with the lid on than with just an open TB, plus the air will be colder than the under-hood air. The way I run at the track is no filter, no MAF screen, through SLP ramair and whisper lid.

I am trying to accept this but I don't understand how the air from under the hood could be colder then air coming in directly from outside (ram air) and flowing straight to the intake. It would have less bends and would also be a straight shot of air to the intake.

How does the air, from under the hood compared to the air outside of the hood flowing directly to the intake?

In my case the cold air is scooped by the dam under the nose, then scooped again by the wide mouth CA intake and force fed (as it were) right thru the high flow filter into the Whisper/TB. No engine temp air is allowed in whatsoever except maybe at a stop. The effectiveness of this is established by the fact that folks with broken/removed airdams invariable experience overheating on the highway. The radiator is not getting the cold flow it requires. That is the reason the CAI scoops angle the way they do - they still must allow a cold air channel that hits the radiator. Your nostrils look cool (and cool the engine compartment) but unless they literally channel directly into the TB they are not more effective at inducing cold air, or creating higher pressure than your Whisper with a CAI or !FRA
