  • Flowmaster Too Loud

I installed a Flowmaster Catback with the 80 series dual outlet muffler on my '95 Camaro 3.4 along with a highflow cat. It sounded awful - way too loud and harsh at anything over 3000RPM. I replaced the cat with a 24" Red Devil straight through glasspack resonater - much better but stil kind of ricey & sharp over 3000.

Any suggestions for replacing the 80 series muffler to lower the overall noise level to a more mellow growl?

Nothing will make your car not sound awful over 3000 RPM's. Its just how it is.

Borla or SS muffler would be my suggestions.

My car sounds good at all rpm's. I have a 3.8 though. my exhaust is 3" cat, 3" cat-back w/ 80 series flowmaster and quad resonated tips. it's loud, and I might add a resonator after the cat when I put on headers later this year.

The only way a 3.8 sounds half decent is with a cam. Post a clip of it.

no rasp, sometimes it wants to pop but it's really muffled by the tips. sry, no clips. ny to clarify what I mean by "good", i mean when its under load, not reving it at the line. at the line mine starts sounding bad at 4500 rpm.

My magnaflow sounds great since I run a 24" Dynomax resonator in the I-pipe. I recommend trying that to help the sound of the Flow80.

Otherwise, install a Z28 or SS muffler instead and make it quieter to suit you. www.slponline.com sells them and so does ebay. It wont be quiet quiet without insulation inside the body of the car too - I have 3 layers of bquiet in mine.
