  • header leak? - UPDATED

i just fixed the EGR leak and thats gone. and i had no other leaks. then i took my car to the track a few days ago and i noticed another leak sort of more in the middle/passenger side. i cant tell where exactly its coming from, and its not a tick like the EGR was. the new leak sounds more like a gurgle, but kind of similar to the EGR sound. its semi-loud and you can hear it more at low RPMs. i dont notice any loss of power though.

edit: by the way, i have the coated pacesetter headers with the gaskets they included when i bought my headers.

    any ideas?

    Y-Pipe.

Are you using the bolts that don't have much thread on them? The bolts that come with most of the sets don't tighten enough to really seal the y-pipe to the manifolds.

i dont know i didnt install them, but i would assume that they used the ones that pacesetter sent me. is there anyway i can get in there and tighten it? and how do i do it/what size socket/how do i reach it? etc... will this fix it?

trust me, dont even bother trying to use the ones they came with cause all you will do it bottom it out and it still wont be tightened enough. get the same size bolts with the same thread pattern and all but threaded in full length.

            update:

took my car back to meineke this morning (they installed my headers) and they tightened those bolts up real tight with an air socket wrench (or whatever its called). he said they loosened up because of bottoming out, and my exhaust pipes hitting. he was kind of right because when he pushed upwards on the pipes, the leak stopped. so it took him about 15 seconds to tigthen them up, and no more leak, no cost to me. hopefully it wont happen later down the road.

also, i noticed i have a pin-sized hole (really small) leak on my cutout. do you think this matters at all? or is it so small i shouldnt worry about it..

Just out of curiosity, how much did they charge to install the headers?
