Aluminum Whisper Lid

I wonder why no companies have ever produced aluminum Whisper Lids. For one it would look sweet and it would add the the cold air intake. If anyone knows of anyone selling these let me know. Otherwise i think ill bring my lid down to the metal shop and have them mock me one up.

I'll give you 2 reasons:

1. It would be pretty hard to shape aluminum in the correct shape.

2. The aluminum lid would most likely get heat soaked, and actually heat up the incoming air.

Well i thank you for your reply but that sounds ridiculous.

1. Aluminum can be shapped into anything a/i valve covers,oil pans exc...its the 21st century you know!

2. I dont see it getting anymore heat soaked than the other 99% of the aluminum CAI people have under there hood and they seem to work...

So is there any real reason that makes sense?

There is no ALUMINUM WHISPER LID out there! There's aluminum CAI kits, but thats all. You will not find an Aluminum whisper lid for the reasons above.

I made one at work like 3 years ago. All the seams I tig welded and some were really tough. It would take quite a while to reproduce it making it's production cost probably too high. It looked nice, but I scrapped it cuz it really did get hot. The plastic lids resist heat much better, but the aluminum looked sweet!

plastic absorbs heat slower and retains heat longer than aluminum. Aluminum valvecovers...expecialy with
loovers are good for disipating heat. They are also rigid and therefore seal bettler on the heads than old fashioned tin valvecovers. (emissions....pollution.)

think of your computer cpu heat sink...copper and aluminum are great conducters of thermal as well as electrical energy. they can be used to release heat...if attached to the SOURCE of thermal energy ...and then that heat sink is then cooled by a fan...

Great Example....

And making a aluminum Lid would do the same thing...It would pull the heat from the radiator and as it's doing so would heat up the air coming into the lid....

Would look badass though......

oh yea...regardless of what material your airbox or airbox lid is made out of...no one will see it after you cover with heat reflective wrap. [img]smile.gif[/img]
