  • SLP CAI vs. ghetto home depot CAI for 97

ok, just bought a 97 3.8L camaro, have a 95 3.4L currently... i made a 3 inch CAI for my 3.4L, with the filter in the wheel well, all the way to the elbow onto the throttle body, with a slight indent by the corner of the radiator, which was done as smoothly and effieciently as i could, and done very well, if i may say so...
anyway, this has worked very well for me, i can hear it sucking the air in as i drive, and i noticed a definite improvement...

so here's the question, would i be able to make the same kinda thing for my 97 (i pick it up on tuesday night), if i got the 1LE elbow, and would this be as good as the SLP intake... what is the general consesus of this situation, should i make the CAI myself and get good results, or would the results be better, more flowing air, from the SLP CAI.

    thanks for the input...

and p.s. dont think about the cost of the SLP, i just care about performance, and whether my homemade 3 inch (except for the little indent) will give the same/better/worse performance than the SLP CAI

thanks a lot for all the input

    ian

Havent picked up the car yet and already thinking of mods.... :D

I would suggest the SLP CAI for your 97 or the Lingenfelter Supertube, since they have both smooth unobstructive airflow throughout.

Personally you guys take intake flow to seriously. Maybe in exhasut but in the intake its not that harsh of a thing, I reccomend ghetto intake, I prefer a giant 3 in. tube. over the other setup.

WE are tlaking 1-2 hp difference in roughly $125 dollar difference.
