  • 80 series Vs. 40 series

Which one of these is better? Im looking for something thats loud outside (NOT ricey) but not too hard on me inside. Any suggestions?

i think you'll find that either one will be ricey. Sorry to burst your bubble. I like the 40 series better at low rpm's though if that helps.

ok, basically its ur opinion....but heres some guidelines. The 80 series is built specifically for the LT1/LS1, it sounds similar on the 3.8L in the low rpm range. The 40 series is built for more of a carborated older V8 engine. I would say the 80 series is ur best bet, but ive heard of people liking the 40 or the 80. its all a matter of taste. performance wise, the 80 series would probably also be ur best bet cause its made for a camaro/firebird

Go with the 80 series built for the V6, its a little bigger and has less ricey tone. But you'd be better off getting the catback for the 3.8. It has a resonator on the I pipe and has the V6 muffler and its mandrel pipes which are better. I have it and it doesn't get ricey for me, but thats also because I have a dynomax bullet muffler in place of the cat. But it still sounds good with a cat.

The 40 gives it an original flowmaster tone... like those old chevy shortwides running around everywhere with flows... the 40 is my personal favorite... the 80 gives it more of a smooth ls1 type sound in the lower rpm's and will be quieter inside - just stay below 3" on the tips...

Another vote for the 40 series. I had an 80 series for 2 months and actually threw it away. Suuuuucked. The 40 series is alot better, but they ALL sound like a pissed off weedeater at high RPMs. It's just the nature of our motors :( Good luck.

Get the 2.5 American Thunder catback with 80 series. And if you want no ricey sound, go with my setup. I have no ricey sounds at high rpms at all.
